Any thoughts as to how a GS FN in 300 or 350 gn launched at 2000 from a .45-70 might do for NON-dangerous game, say up to 700 lb?

The SD is poor with most .45-70 rounds, leaving me to fret about penetration. I was thinking these fat, nearly solid FN's might help.

We only make one FN for the 45-70 and it is a 305gr bullet. It is 305gr to easily distinguish it from the 300gr .458 bullets. The bullet is pretty close to indestructible and even shooting it into solidly packed earth backstops failed to cause loss of weight on the bullet. At 305 gr it is short enough to give excellent straight line penetration even in slow twists and at lower speeds.

Thank you. I don't have the barrel yet, but I'd likely end up with a .458 in whatever twist is appropriate. Other than diameter, is there any difference in construction (metal, length, or meplat) between the 300 and the 305?

Use the 9.3 270 FN. From a standard factory twist, it will give better straight line penetration than the 300gr FN. More speed can be had with a drive band bullet than with a smooth or grooved bullet and this translates into higher momentum and energy values as well as shorter time of flight. All this is nice to have when facing DG.

The 300 458 and 305 456 are equivalents and you should use the one dictated by your barrel diameter.

Gina, I have been following all of the threads about the troubles getting bullets from you to the USA. I would like to place a big order but I am reluctant to send a couple of thousand dollars to you and not receive the goods in a timely fashion. Have your production/delivery/shipping issues been corrected? How long will it take for an order of 50 boxes of bullets to reach me? Finally would you be willing to take a large order and send me the goods for inspection BEFORE I pay you?????

500 Grains on AR recently made a sizeable purchase and it took a month to receive. That's pretty good. I am a customer and will be making future purchases as well.

From my perspective, and I may get criticized for this by some AR posters, I don't think it would be fair to expect GS Custom to ship thousands of dollars of product half way around the world and then try to collect payment. Perhaps you should start with a small order, or better yet see if John Murray at HV Concepts has the bullets you want to try. He is the former distributor who is liquidating his inventory. Check his recent AR "Classifieds" post for availability.

Before you order the bullets, please check with the ATF about the required paperwork that must be filed when importing bullets into the US. FWIW, Dutch.

I'm no expert, but I think that only applies to imports for commercial resale. I think small lots for personal use are okay. Anyone know the "chapter and verse" (the law) on this for sure?

You will never get an answer from ATF. They say "read the regs", so that they are never responsible for any mistakes or oversights.

Not to get into it with anyone but like they say Read the Regs. If you do so you will find out even for Small Personal orders a form part 6 approved is required. It also applys to brass, powders, primers etc. They are on the US Munitions list.There is a dollar amount affixed to it also and as long as you stay below that no lic. or registration is required for personal use. My advice is to get the permit. It costs nothing and insures should the customs get involved in any way you are covered.
