Plastic ammo cases for air travel
Does anyone know of a source for plastic overcases that are made to fit a cardboard box of factory ammo inside? I'm tired of full boxes getting dog-eared when their contents are not fully used.

More than a few companies make plastic cases for reloads with individual compartments to hold 20 rounds, but I haven't found one for full factory ammo boxes. The airlines often require original packaging.

I've never heard of "over cases", but most plastic cases will fit into Remington or Winchester paper boxes.

WPN: Go to the MTM web site. There you will find plastic cases suitable for 20 rnds. of ammo. Look also at the shotshell/choke tube case. I place the 20 rnd. cases in the shot shell case, lock with a small lock, then place in my duffel bag. This set up has worked well for me and has never been questioned by the airlines. Hope this helps. Alan.

I've never had a problem carrying MTM or similar plastic ammo boxes. I typically pack them inside a plastic "ammo can" type container along with knives and other such gear. I've heared of guys printing official looking labels on their computer for the boxes just to make sure the airline people who know nothing about guns (typically) don't blink. Wink

My understanding is that factory made plastic boxes comply with the rules.
They are specifically made for the transport of ammo.

The rule is actually that each round of ammo is kept seperate from all other rounds of ammo - therefore the MTM (etc) plastic boxes should be perfectly acceptable....... of course, that assumes the check in agent knows what they're talking about - which is about as likely as pigs flying.... rotflmo

I think this is not true...the factory boxes are OK...as they separate the ammo in individual compartments....just the same as plastic boxes from MTM or midway.

Original packaging is anything I originally bought it in.....I never buy factory ammo...so the original packare is my plastic boxes
Focus on the "loose rounds" part
You can't go with a bunch of ammo in a ziplock bag!!

I used the plastic boxes from Midway once, and from airline rough handling the rounds popped out the bottom piece from a bunch of the compartments.

Use MTM boxes.
