African Guard Dogs!

Frank MartinezYeooooow! Those things are huge. I see one has already been muzzled. They even have the look of wanting to bite.
A Hyena would be an interesting gaurd dog. It would be funny to be showing your trophy room off when all of the sudden, your hyena gets up and starts moving. I'm sure it would be a good laugh.
Saeed,
Do you have any details on the pics?
Sevens
My friend Ray Atkinson sent them to me.
May be he can shed some light on this.
Horst, a friend who goes hunting with me, had a hyena as a pet years ago - he used to run the local zoo.
He said it was one of the best pets he had ever had.

Boss KongoniI never realized how big they are until I saw them next to a man! I don't think I'd want any part of Baboon gaurd dog either.

BoghossianI knew a guy that had a serval cat, nowhere near as scary as those beasts! They look a LOT smaller through the sights of a 300 winchester!
I heard they aren't that closely related to dogs, I wonder if they can have a bond with humans!
My uncle used to work at a zoo and he was in charge of a lion for a little while. Anyway, he was allowed to bring the lion home (it was a youngster) and his dad thought how cool it would be to take the lion for a walk. After all, how many lions you see walking down the street? Lion got to the end of the curb sat down and wouldn't move.
On another occasion, he brought home a baboon. Somewhere they got the great idea to teach it how to use the toilet. After a few hours of training, the bathroom had been turned up-side down. I don't think they would make too great of a pet.

AtkinsonSaeed,
Someone sent them to me and I just forwarded them to you, as I knew that you and Horst would appreciate the pictures.
The photos, if I'm not mistaken, are in Dar es Salaam as that location is across the street from the office that handles the local travel business, like to Zanzibar, the baloon rides over the Serengetti crator etc...
I would love to have a Hyena, I would dye his hair dark brown and get in the dog fighting business and get rich until some interprising Bubba shaved a Loins mane off and called him "fido"..........

AtkinsonJust got an email and D'Arcy Echols and I were on line a lot last week, and some others got that email from him, so I bet thats who sent it to me...
Ray
Interesting you should bring up dog fighting. I met a bloke up here in the Territory, who's right into the dog fight scene and has a breed of dog that has proven unbeatable so far. He calls it the "Long nose, short legged, long tailed Australian fighting dog"........You guys might know it better as the salt water Crocodile

DungbeetleI think you're right on that, Bakes, and the present, reigning world champion is the one whose owner sewed his asshole shut.

Actually Ray, those photos are from Nigeria. It is prohibited by law to keep any kind of wild animal as pets in Tanzania.....I always wanted one myself though
Holy cow! Those are a lot bigger than I pictured them to be! I'm not sure I would want to have one as a pet - how 'domestic' can they be?? Of course, even the more normal dogs like pit bulls and the like can be very dangerous and untrustworthy.
For those that know: what's the average live weight of a full grown hyena like these? Are these just real big specimens, or are they all this size?

Which explains the "Niger-Global" sign on the car. I was wondering a bit about that...

BoghossianI think that any dog is safe in the right hands and the same applies for wild animals. Give your children a pet leopard and you'll be sorry, but people have kept them for centuries...
