African Hunting!
Just received my CM Safaries email. Elephant and lion $120,000.00. Ele only $60,000.
With all this talk about a Texas Hunting forum surely some "farmer" can do it cheaper? No worries about importing trophies etc.
Peter.

A hunting trip is mostly about the adventure.

If I shoot an Ele in TX, and you track one down in the Zambezi Valley, we did NOT do the same thing.

That said, there are plenty of Ele hunts (esp non-trophy/ management) that are around the price of a buffalo hunt, in some cases even less.

Peter,

If CMS can do a trophy ele and lion these days for $120,000 all-in it is a fair price in this market.

I agree it is a load of money but the adventure offered in a ele/lion combo cannot be measured in $$$$$.

I have been told that in some countries a problem animal hunt for ele, Cape buff, leopard, lion (or any problem animal) can be done in a most economic fashion.
No fancy camps, luxurious travel, fancy meals, and NO trophies!
Just the satisfaction of shooting several/many problem animals. Just hunting and killing those animals for the benefit of the people in the area.
Possibly much of the previously listed costs are for those conveniences and luxuries?

These are prime area hunts. He could chop up that lion/ele combo and get 60 for each so there is no reason to discount it. You can always go hunt Dande or other areas for cheaper.

Interesting statement, then what would it be measured in?

That’s a great question!

The purpose of man is to live, not to exist.

I'd measure it against a life well lived. The chance to walk in the footsteps of giants - Bell et al - and if only for a minute, to realize what it might have been like.

Dollars might be how you pay for it, or how you compare one against the other, but it seems to me it's food for your soul.

If I had that kind of money,I would do it in a heartbeat! I have hunted both some years ago. The best memories I could have but yes I do want to do it again!!!

505,

I think Jeff P answered your question most eloquently.

I love hunting, but in my experience, unless you have lots of time, it's hard to combine cats with anything but buffalo or other bait animals and hard to combine elephant with anything. The primary animal trumps everything, which for me has usually meant the cat, but how do you choose between a lion and an elephant. I have taken an elephant with a leopard on one hunt, but frankly that was luck and the elephant came at last light on the last day.

Ha! That was a long day. Had planned to fly out of Mbeya commercial the next day, but due to the lateness of the hour, had to charter out. Haven't flown commercial since in Tanzania.
