<mikeh416Rigby>Looks like a nice Nyala to me, but without a size reference it's hard to tell.

DB BillI should have ask that question myself. I've been told they measure 29" around the curve so I suspect they are from a fairly large Nyala.

JJHACK29" is a monster Nyala. As I recall there are only a few SCI Nyala's over 30" At least that is what I remember looking at the most recent all time SCI record book.
This is a Nyala I shot a few weeks ago. It's just a bit over 30" I would say the horns you have are from a Nyala!

GraftonWhy not a sitatunga?

MARK H. YOUNGGrafton,
Personally I also think it either could be a nyala or a sitatunga. I've shot both and I really can't see a huge difference.

JJHACKMy reason for the suggestion is that a Zambezi or Southern Sitatunga will begin to have an sdditional 1/2 curl at about 26-28 inches. This is not 100% of the time but it's quite common on the biggest ones of which this one would fit. The horns begin to look more like a small kudu at this length or score. With this one being 29" there is no sign of that 1/2 curl at the tip.
If it is a Forest Sitatunga then at 29" it would be one of the top 4 in the world.
If it were a East Africa Sitatunga it would be #2 in the world.
If it were a Sesse Island Sitatunga at 29" then it would be number #1 in the world by more then 3"
I suppose it's possible that it could be a Sitatunga but the odds of it are low due to the size. If it were that big and not a Southern Sitatunga then I think somebody would know about it.
It's entirely likely it could be a Southern Sitatunga without the last 1/2 twist but that would be a bit strange in my opinion

It was only a guess on my part but as I look at my 28.5 " Zambezi sitatunga it is quite difficult to distinquish it from a nyala solely by horn configuration.
If I had to choose I probably would say nyala since I think they are more common in trophy collections.
Regardless the horns above are a beautiful trophy no matter what animal they belong to.

Mark

Im going out on a limb to say it is a Sitatuga ( found in East, Central, and West Africa ) or possibly a Nyala as back up if I am wrong (-:

BwanahileIf the trophy would have been done as a nice shoulder mount we would not have to be guessing!!!!!

Those look like a very large Sititunga to me! If you will notice there are no ridges around the horns, along the base to about half way up that are evidend on JJ's example of Bushbuck. Where did these horns come from?
