SunshineRSA: looking for 'unfenced' hunting farms
Many years ago (app. 30) I hunted in the north-western part of the Limpopo province, then called Northern Transvaal. Unfortunately that farm is now game-fenced, a fact which I dislike. In the meantime I'm living near Cape Town, often I'm dreaming about those hunts for kudu, impala and warthog. In Limpopo who knows plain cattle farms, which are fenced with a simple fence? No posh accommodation is needed.

SunshineThanks to all, but that's not what I'm looking for. I'm searching for a working cattle farm where kudu, impala and warthog occur naturally. Only a low fence around. In other words the game can travel from farm to farm. Don't need a PH, a local familiar with the farm is all I have to take along.
On such a farm I hunted all my kudu and impala. I stayed in a tent, the 'shower' was a converted petrol canister. That was over 30 years ago. What a wonderful time we had. For a big kudzu bull I had paid ZAR 350, for both trophy and venison. In the meantime that cattle farm turned into a posh game-fenced property. No thank you, that's really not what I like.

JCHBSunshine, I think you are asking the wrong crowd here. There are plenty of great outfitters offering free range hunts but they are catering for the USA market. The type of hunt you remember relies on knowing a local with a cattle farm. You would be better off checking out Magnum Magazine and asking for a back copy with the local hunting opportunities in it. Alternately try the Landbou Weekblad.

SunshineJCHB thanks, I guess you are right. But I have a lot of MAGNUM copies, there are no simple hunts offered anymore, at least I couldn't find any. Maybe I should place an ad in Farmers Weekly.

Code4There are properties in RSA that advertise as 'bush holiday' retreats etc and some allow hunting. Prices for foreigners are about 3x what you locals would pay. Its a matter of getting the managers/owners to trust you. Foreigners of course have to have all the legalities complied with which means PH etc etc..

CrazyhorseconsultingBest of Luck on your search. I have never hunted Africa, but things are pretty much the same way here in America, places where I could hunt duck and dove for free and deer hunting could be had by leasing a place for $1.00 US per acre, now charge $1000.00 US and up per hunter just for the season.
The face of hunting has changed world wide, and not really for the good.
Even the rocks don't last forever.

Mark ClarkI don't have a contact but we hunted warthogs on a potato farm west of Baltimore in 2009. Also hunted warties on a cattle ranch south of Alldays, west of road. All low fence.
I did not see anything other than warthog but they may be there.
I got the impression the potato farmers wanted them gone because the irrigation systems wheels get stuck in the holes. A few telephone calls may get you a hunt.
