daleWThe book: Elephant and Elephant Guns, by Will Stewart
The book entitled "Elephant and Elephant Guns" written by Will Stewart is a must read.
The book clarifies any confusion regarding the type of rifle and calibers to use when hunting for elephant and simplifies all of the complicated ballistic data for large caliber rifles.
Stewart details his own failures and mistakes of elephant hunting that are excellent teaching points for anyone considering hunting the African elephant.
There are fantastic stories on African hunting and one in particular about a Tanzanian buffalo hunt that had gone bad. I am not going to spoil the story or the book in this post , but it is one of the most incredible and tragic hunting stories I have ever heard. A modern day Shakespearian story.
A must read for anyone planning on hunting elephant or any big game in Africa.
Disclosure: I have gone elephant hunting only once and I do not know or have never met Will Stewart.

surestrikePretty incredible that a guy who can do little more than grunt, insult and drool here on AR is such a descriptive writer.
I'll just have to take your word for it.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

MacD37I have Will's first book, and have been looking forward to his second effort! I haven't ordered the new one yet but I will shortly.
Not that I think he will tell us anything we don't already know, but because I simply like books!

At least in some cases.

Idaho Sharpshooterthe book is well written, with a tremendous amount of personal experience that is evident as you read it.
For those who are critical of Will: perhaps you would care to enlighten the rest of us as to your wealth of elephant hunting background that qualifies you to do so...

MARK H. YOUNGRich,
Will is a self absorbed egomaniac know-it-all asshole (he'll take that as a compliment) and I do have a "huge amount of personal experience" identifying same.
Will,
Congrats on the book. At 61 I won't have enough time to gather the expereince I imagine you've forgotten about eles.

You owe me a beer for the rights to the picture. By the way, Buzz will have the one tusker tusk in his booth in Dallas.
I am afraid that your sense of humor seems to be beyond the ability of some to understand. Let's face it, some folks are just wound a little too tight.
