Strikingly similar to the US Petrified Forest in Arizona. In fact, the topography bears a decent resemblance to parts of the American West, of which I've seen but a scant bit.

SaeedWe followed a herd of buffalo for sometime, and managed to shoot a bull.
Then we had to wait for several hours for our truck to come and collect us.
We cut the buffalo up, and decided to cook the hear for lunch.

SaeedThe buffalo was wounded by Walter late in the day, and they were not able to find it before dark.
They found it in the morning partly eaten by lions.

Walter did not fair so well.
Apparently there was a shortage of Walterable animals."

Probably.
We found a whole bunch of them,empties and some loaded rounds, mixed, British and German cartridges.
We have named that hill as BATTLE HILL now.
We found them as we followed a herd of buffalo for a while, and got in front of them and I shot two.
While recovering these Roy found this stash.

SaeedToday we devoted to shooting spotted chickens for the pot.
Rene makes a most delicious curry out of them.
Yes, we do have another leopard on quota, but so far they seem to feed at hours we cannot hunt.
We have several lions feeding, but all are young.
But, we enjoy seeing them on the bait.

I find Crested Guinea much tastier and more tender than its Helmeted cousin and without a shadow of doubt, its fate is best as a stew or a spiced-up curry.

SaeedI managed to shoot only one crested guinea fowl, the rest are helmeted guinea fowl.
I am sure we will enjoy both on Friday.

SaeedIt is people like Walter that make the world interesting.
One never knows what comes next!
Yesterday went looking for kudu.
Chased a couple of bulls into the bush was never able to see them again!!
Sat on leopard bait a few times, but he beat us.
According to the trail camera, this tom feeds at odd hours.
8;30 in the morning, 11;50 at night, and any time in between. but not when we are there.
Last half day hunting today, then we have our shooting contest in the afternoon.
And head home tomorrow.
I have many more photos to post, and of course videos.

Lots of it get dried by camp staff.
They get no meat in their villages, and apparently the meat they get from the safari lasts them until April!
They have a special way of drying it.
They boil it first and dry it.
They say it keeps longer this way.
I have hours and hours of assorted videos, and will process and post after I get home.
Guinea fowl curry is for dinner tonight.

SaeedLate start or all of us this morning.
Hyenas have been at it since 3 something, and I was not able to get back to sleep.
Packing all done by 4, and now having a coffee with the rest of camp.
Very cloudy today.
We have had cloudy days quite often, that clear later in the day.
I mentioned the lack of tse tse flies earlier on, they seem to have come back.
In fact we have found where they hold their conventon.
An area so full of them, no matter what repellent you use, you get wacked!
This year we also got quite a lot of mpane bees!
Very annoying little suckers.
Never seen them here before.
We found a wounded old duggaboy right next to our skinning shed!
He had a terrible wound on his back just ahead of of his tail.
He was very thin too.
A good candidate to be shot, but, sadly we have finished our quota.
In fact, yesterday, we could easily have shot at least 3 bulls if we had any left on our quota.
Great time was had by everyone.
Everyone involved here did an incredible job, and we all appreciate it.
Best of all they always look forward to seeing us again as we look forward to coming here.
Another comedic safari comes to an end - Roy said it is a wonder we do manage to do any hunting!

Roy and Rene on their way to Dallas Fort Worth, Maktoum, Walter and me are to Dubai.
Left Alan in camp to take the camp down, as this is his last hunt this year.

SaeedHow hunts change in an instant.
We found the fresh tracks of a herd of buffalo early in the morning, and started following them.
They went through all sorts of country.
Korongos and grass, some relatively sparse bush and some very think, where we had to stop every few minutes to listen.
We caught up with them, and the job of trying to pick a suitable bull was on.
Suddenly, someone mouthed the word ELAND!
The game changed, and we started looking at what looked like a herd of eland about 100 yards away.
We were looking into the rising sun, which makes it more difficult to see through the bush.
Alan was looking through his glasses.
Suddenly, he put the shooting sticks up, saying "eland bull there".
I looked through my scope, and could clearly see a part of a cow, and the bull behind her.
His body was nor visible, but his neck and head were.
The gap in the bush was small, and if they move no one knows if we can see him again.
I aimed for his neck, and fired.
He dropped at the shot, and we have everyone's favorite meat to take back to camp.
Rene was very happy!
We had a bit of fun with our trackers, as they were gutting the eland and cutting it in half to load into the truck.
We started talking about using the two pieces for lion bait!
They gave us looks of utter shock, saying "eland for lion bait???"

Eland steak was the very best meat I had in Africa. Yes, it was RSA and the landowner had rights, but the PH bought the meat. We cooked it on cast iron on a platter to the degree of your choosing. Maybe salt was used, if that. I still think of it 10 years later.
