Size Of Rifle For Croc
Dear Guy's

My wife would like to shoot a croc.
She is not a big hunter but has taken game with a .270 and a 300WM.

1. What would you class as a minimum cal?
Please consider this is a lady shooting.

2. What type of bullet construction would be best?
Soft point, solid, Barns?

3. What is the average shooting distance?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mark,

Good choice on behalf of your wife and I find hunting croc interesting can be very thrilling.

I would recommend the 300WM with softs. There are many here who will advice you on best bullet or see 'Bullet choice for Croc'

Most shots are from a blind and I set up baits to shoot at 50 yards. However if the croc of your choice is lying up on a sandbank or the other side of the river then the shot could exceed 100 yards. Thus when you sight your rifle for croc you should know what it is doing at both these distances.

When Jack O'Connor took his croc he shot it with, what else, a 270. The ability to deliver an accurate shot to the brain at 200 yds being the most important part of the equation.

My wife brained a 14 foot 8 incher with a .30-06 (180 Grain Nosler Partitions). A very ACCURATE .30-06. On croc, placement means everything.
