DavidCTerry,
I just watched the video preview and it looks really good! I like Boddington's stuff anyway and I am sure his video will be a good purchase....especially for a poor SOB like myself who can't quite get to Africa yet.

I have often wondered what effect or influence internet forums and AR in particular have had on the gunwriters/magazines etc? I guess I have my answer.....when "how to" videos like this start showing up I think it's a pretty clear indicator that someone is taking note of these forums and the interest in African hunting!!!

I also noticed that in the future he will release videos of Boddington on Leopard and African Experience...
Regards,
Dave

mhoTo play this (US) DVD in Europe, I seem to need
1) a DVD player that will play DVDs with a US area code (or simply ignore area codes)
2) what about the signal to my TV set (PAL), will that be OK??
With videos in NTSC format, I had a VCR that was supposed to be able to play the NTSC casettes (until it started chewing up tapes...), but the signal to the TV was always somehow wrong - like no sound, or flickering lines on top of screen or whatever. Will I have this problem with DVDs as well??
Enquiring minds want to know...

WinkMHO,
DVD's are "zoned" which is basically internal software in your DVD player. Most of the retail vendors in Europe know how to "dezone" your DVD player, which will allow you to play the DVD no matter the country of origin. The hardest to dezone, I am told, are the Sony DVD players which apparently also include some firmware in the machine to make it difficult. Ask almost any kid who knows anything about computers, or the the store which sold you your DVD player as it's not a complicated procedure and most do it for free.

BwanahileTerry,
Received my copy on Monday. Good video, a little commercialization up front. A lot of talk (shot placement, gear, rifles, etc) with not a lot of hunting. Picture quality is very good. The intro indicates that a "Boddington on Leopard" will be out in the fall. The vidoe comes with a ticket you send back with a chance to win the Dakota 375 he uses on the hunt (too bad it is left handed). I like the video, but I think I like his books better. You can also order the book from Outdoor Visions.

Marc_StokeldUK DVD's will sometimes play on my DVD player attached to my TV, but they always play on my computer. Just wish I had a bigger monitor. ANd my regular chair in my home office!

Russell E. TaylorThanks, Terry!!!!!!!!! I didn't even know there WAS a "Craig Boddington" dot com!!! Far out! A new place to hang out on the 'Net!!!

I'm getting the video. If I win the rifle, do I have to become a Southpaw?

Thanks for this thread, Terry.

RHSBoddington is Boddington... When I finally firm up my hunt plans for buff, I'll be petitioning Saeed of the +100 club and AR fame with pertinent questions regarding his field adventures. My philsophy with any dangerous adversary has always been go for the head first...the old "never shoot a great bear in the head" line I have heard since my youth is pure BS. Take the head and it's game over. True, it takes more than a bit of skilled marksmanship, but the reward is great. If not the head the neck... Motor won't run without spark...

jorgeWith the exception of elephant and hippo and under certain circumstances buffalo, there isn't a PH or professional guide out there (I don't think) that will let you take a head shot on any DG or any animal for that matter as an initial shot. jorge

RHSHow are they going to know where the front sight or crosshairs are placed for the shot? It's my hunt and my $, right? Had a guide on a handgun deer hunt that was tired of field dressing shoulder shot animals and challenged me to go for the head or neck...and I haven't looked back.
If I don't feel confident enough in my marksmanship to hit a grapefruit at under 50 yards with a DG rifle, I won't make the trip and save my $ for something else. Been hunting this way for over 40 years and a head/neck shot stops the action real quick. Heck, when things go wrong, all of a sudden we better "...brain the bastard or we're dead!" seems kinda late in the game. Even given the shakes, tremors, adrenaline, etc., I will go for "lights out"...

ShumbaThanks for the info. Can't wait to see the video.
I think this is the hunt that Craig took with Andrew Dawson in Zim. I know Andrew, but have not hunted with him. I have heard he is a great PH and most of the PH's that know him seem to say the same.
They just finished filming this in August 2004 as N'gagi and I arrived on our buffalo/plainsgame hunt in the concession next to Andrew's (Big 5 Safaris - Chewore North). It should be fun to watch.

N'gagiI spoke to Tim Danklef and he says it's the best video they have ever done. I think it's two to three hours of video. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy!

WhitworthLet's see, Christmas is roughly one week away. I have yet to do any Christmas shopping, but ten minutes after reading this post and I've ordered this DVD -- for myself nonetheless. I am so hopeless.

Grapefruits at 50 yards are easy.

458RugerNo1I really enjoy Craig's books, so look forward to this one too. I'll probably get the DVD also...

I've been reading John Taylor's books lately and "Maneaters and Marauders" is next on the list.

jorgeHe'll tell you before you make the shot and if you go ahead an do it, he'll be pissed and you'll probably sour the rest of the hunt. Maybe Ray or some of the other experienced african hunters can chime in. NOBODY's going to let you shoot a lion, leopard in the head, nobody. With the brain about the size of a tennis ball, chances are you'll miss and then he'll be forced to clean up your mess. Tell you waht, why don't you start a thread and lable it "head shots on game or DG" or words to that effect and see wht happens? jorge

Chuck NelsonI talked to Tim today as well and ordered the DVD. SBT, you bring up something Tim had let me know in our conversation earlier. Books ordered from this site can be signed by Craig or personalized to you or even a friend if giving it as a gift. Nice touch I thought.

Jorge:
I head shot a buffalo with Swanepol and Scandrol. PH was Jeff Covey. He saw me shoot and felt comfortable letting me head bop a buff at 45 yards off the sticks.

BoghossianHoly smokes, boddington sure knows how to cycle a bolt action fast! I am not ashamed to say I have never pulled off 3 shots at a running beast in such quick succession (and hit!). Looks like CB is cashing in on his huge popularity, can't say I blame him.

maxmanthanks for the heads-up Terry. Looks like I'll have to get that one - lots of good info presented it appears. Not just a series of kill shots anyway, like a lot of hunting videos. Plus, it's almost 3 hrs long! maxman
