ELAND HORN REMOVAL???
I have an eland skull with the horns still attached.

I've tried to removing them after soaking in water, I've tried to remove them dry, I've tried tugging, I've tried twisting, I've tried cussing and I've tried pulling like hell!

But they won't budge...

Is there a "secret" to gettting these horns off the skull?

my guess is that they're glued on. Usually they just fall off when dried

I can't imagine that they are glued on. At least no professional work has been done on it.

The skull was skinned and boiled in africa, boxed and sent here with other trophies, so no taxidermest has worked on it.

Or is it customary for them to be glued in the pack/ship process?

New_Guy, Till I saw you were refering to an ELAND skull, I was about to reccomend the same process used to take the horns off Prong horn. About 5 minutes in a microwave, but I dont think you will find a microwave big enough for an Eland skull. Confused

The micro works on fresh pronghorn, but I'm not sure it will work after the skull has dried for months!

OK - try using an old 55 gal barrel & building a fire under it, Boil them for about 5 minutes and they should pop right off

Got it - bring them back to boil.
