Brian Nicholson of Selous GR Fame.
Folks,

I'm sure many/most of you will have heard of Brian Nicholson who with the assistance of Jon Speed (of later Mauser book(s) fame etc) laid out the original hunting blocks in the Selous Game Reserve Tanzania is currently very ill in Melbourne Australia.

The message I received said:

"I just got some sad news from Australia about Brian Nicholson! He is 79 and recently had intestinal surgery, then got septicemia from the surgery, then just a few days ago fell and broke his hip!! A sad way for such a person to go down"

Every hunter that's ever set foot or ever will set foot in the SGR owes Brian Nicholson a very BIG assante sana bwana!

Let's all hope such a great man recovers and let's all wish him well. thumb

I worked with Brian for one hunting season back in 85. I had heard of him and admired him for many years. I was not disapointed at all. I have his book, which I treasure as an irreplaceable bit of Selous/Tanzania/Elephant/African History.

You're a lucky man on both counts..... Regarding the book. I'd love to get my sticky mits on a copy but it costs a bloody fortune nowadays!

I wish men like him were still in charge of our wild places!

But with his toughness, I hope and pray he recovers fast.
