I just watched the most informative hunting episode I've ever seen.

They took Blue Wildebeest, Hartabeest, and Black Wildebeest.

After each one, the PH explained what to look for and what makes a good trophy in each species - size of boss, mass, horn drop, width in comparision to ears, etc.

What I nice Black wildebeest they took.

They also spent several minutes showing the correct way to balance your rifle on a tripod.

I enjoyed it so much, I'm going to stay up and watch it again in a few hours.

Anybody know what rifle he was using? Looked like a long action (.375?) Sako (maybe?) or similar. I didn't catch the first few minutes of the program so maybe it was described. I, too, thought it was an excellent show.

DJR, I believe I saw CZ-USA as a sponsor in the credits so I assumed it was one of the CZ rifles. I was wondering about the rifle and caliber myself. I have both episodes TIVOed so I will be checking further.

Noticed the rifle was double cross bolted so I
guessed .375H&H or so. His use of the sticks
was fine for that rifle but I tried it with my
458 Lott. 2 fingers up front.
BOTH hands for me.

Mike has been shooting a Dakota rifle in the earlier episodes, and I think an HS Precision too. Since he is off to Africa he may have a new canon. I will have to check the re-run tomorrow.

Mike was definitely shooting a CZ, "American" logo was seen on the side of the rifle, as well as the double crossbolts fore and aft of the magazine box like they do at the factory on the CZ 550 Medium. I have a 9.3x62 that was factory crossbolted like this.

Another shot showed the small bore of the slick barreled rifle muzzle. No iron sights.

CZ has made a .300 Winchester on the 550 Medium as well as the 550 Magnum.

Mike was certainly very accurate and all his shots seemed to be one-shot kills, IIRC.

I think Mike had one of the CZ 550 Medium actioned factory rifles for this show, "American" style stock and no iron sights. He did very well with his scope in standard CZ rings, for sure.

If anyone can find out what cartridge and bullet he was shooting, please post. Seems there was also a credit for Superior Ammunition, the custom handloader of Sturgis, SD, IIRC.
