One of the things that really got me interested in Africa as a kid (Besides Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom) was watching Doctari.

I don't even remember all that much about the program, and in fact, it may have all been filmed on a set like Gilligan's Island, but I seem to recall it being pretty authentic (to a ten year old).

Is there any way to find old videos, or DVD's of that program? I can't even seem to find anything on Google.

Appreciate any leads....

"Daktari" is the Swahili word for "doctor," and the title of the 1960's TV show. "Doctari" not.

Google "Daktari" and you will get 414,000 hits.

Kevin "Doctari" Robertson must surely have caused the spelling confusion.

Search the movie "Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion" that was the pilot for the show "Doctari".

I saw it about a year ago on Turner Classic Movies.

It would be realistic for a ten year old (I saw it then too) but no longer at my age.

The movie is fun!!!

I'll have to find that movie for my kids to watch. Their first trip to Africa is in June - 5 days photo safari in RSA, 10 days hunting in Namibia. I had forgotten about that movie and TV show and would enjoy seeing it again.

Our neighbor had "Santa Claus" bring them a zebra striped Jeep for Christmas and it's pretty neat. Their kids are the same age as ours (9 & 11) and they leave for their 2nd hunt in RSA in August.

I never did. I drive a zebra striped Jeep, with Bwanabe on the license plate and accuratereloading on the windshield. I guess I never outgrew it!

Same here. One of my vehicles is a Right hand drive Jeep, with the license plane HYENA. At least I can pretend I am on Safari.

very cool rig. man, those pics bring back a flood of memories. like you, that show, wild kingdom, tarzan movies and the tv show started the africa bug for me...... i doubt i'll ever get over it.

I can't understand putting shooting related stuff on your license plates.

The cargo rack is a Con-Fer that I had specially made to my specs. My Jeep is a Scrambler, with the long wheel base, so I had them make one that was four inches longer and wider than the drip line, and then I welded up custom mounts so that it bolts to the roll cage. that way, I can still run topless or with the bikini or soft top.

I have since added rails to convert it to carry a 14' aluminum johnboat on top, and my 9HP outboard hangs off the gas can rack in back.

It also has all kinds of other mods. It's the ultimate hunting/fishing rig in my mind, but then I ride in my buddies plush SUV on a long drive and thing otherwise.

All things considered, I'll keep my Scrambler
(CCHunter-Christer posted a video of him driving it around last time he was in the states).

I did bump into another Zebra striped rover in the early 90's...it was in Dutch Harbour AK some how it seemed to look at home there
