biggametvSafari Hunter's Journal in prime time on VERSUS
We received some good news at SCI this week. Because of the response received from viewers, the VERSUS NETWORK is moving
Safari Hunter's Journal to Thursday nights @ 7:00 PM EST and 8:00 PM PST to test its fit on "big game Thursday's" for a while. Hopefully, some of you on the left coast who haven't be able to see it for a while will get a chance to watch.
Thanks for your kind comments.

Fulldraw Outdoor MediaCongratulations, Steve. That's a great time slot. I haven't caught it in some time but have always enjoyed the show. It seems like Versus is really trying to step up with some good shows.

bwanamrmExcellent, Steve... congrats on a much better time slot. I was running out of excuses for being late to the office so this is timely news!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

biggametvThanks all. We really appreciate your support.
Perhaps if there is enough positive feedback, VERSUS will keep the show in this better time slot.

RIPYep, gotta reset the TIVO now. Good stuff.
The honesty on the lost leopard was refreshing. It could happen to anyone. Lessons learned?

Bill CExcellent! Now they need to move Tracks Across Africa back to a decent time slot too.
For a few weeks their evening programming really sucked...every time I flipped to it they were playing Rocky or some early-80's Hockey movie.
However, the next few days look pretty good, maybe there is hope yet for them.

biggametvRIP:
You asked about lessons learned on the leopard?
That's easy. Use a lighted reticle scope. I will never make that mistake again.

jorgeHi Steve, email sent to VS in support of your great show. I watched it last night but I didn't see the leopard hunt. Can you fill us in? Do you really think the ill reticle helps? Reason being, I have one on my rifle at the recommendation of my PH, but I've tried looking through it at night at a fake target lopeard I have and can't see much difference. jorge

biggametvJorge:
Thanks for your kind words and your input to VS.
Regarding the leopard: As you probably know, Zambia does not allow the use of artificial light when hunting. However, that doesn't mean it has to be what we call "legal light" here in the US. The tom was backlit by the eastern skyline, which gave me an outline, but absolutely nothing more than a black figure against a dark gray background. I interpolated the crosshair placement using the ends of the horizontal and verticle axis' on the periphery of the scope. With no contrast between the tom and the crosshairs, I probably moved the POA a bit lower as I settled into the trigger squeeze and made a bad shot. I am 100% certain that if I had a red dot or illuminated X in the sight picture, I would have been "on" when I pulled the trigger.
Since I have only used Swarovski products over the past several years, I cannot comment on other illuminated products, but I know the Swarovski reticle allows for intensity control, which would keep the shooter from loosing night vision to a too bright crosshair. IMO.

UplandhunterCan you tell us if the Leopard was ever recovered?
05 February 2007, 18:10
jorgeThanks Steve. I also have a Swaro PH but w/o the ill reticle. The Leupold has a rheostat to control dot intensity as well. Thanks for the explanation. Take care and good luck with the show. jorge
