Commercial value of Buffalo
In the old days were buff shot for any reason but food?
Like was there any pro buff specialists getting around in Taylor's day?

Most of Africa, and certainly South Africa's, buffalo were killed by the rinderpest outbreak near the turn of the last centuary. Some early farmers also erradicated buffalo to make space for their cattle. But this is one of those things where memory from what you have read in fiction clouds and confuses the actual facts. IMHO there was never the widespread slaughtering of cape buffalo that was the cause of the demise of the American bison herds.

Quyite large numbers of buffalo were hunted for meat to supply the big sugar estates with meat in Mocambique in years past.
