Guys n gals,

Needing help from my internet friends. I have been practicing with the 250 grain CX bullets. Wanting to use TTSX bullets in factory ammo but not finding any on AmmoSeek.

Your thoughts on the CX bullet for my intendend use?
I leave January 15th.

No personal experience with the CX. Used a 250 TTSX successfully on a moose in 2019 without much fanfare.

You're having trouble finding loaded ammo with the 250 TTSX? Or component bullets?

Eland in general are not particularly tough animals.

I used a RWS 300gr ordinary cup and core on my LDE and buffalo. No issues. Did what it was supposed to do.

Use any bullet you wish.

Put it the right place.

End of story!

If the CX gives good velocity and accuracy it should work- as above, eland tend to be less hardy than other game over there. While the LDE is bigger horned, I didn’t think they were that much larger than their southern cousins.

I’ve killed eland with .30-06 and 7x57, so pretty much anything with a heavy for caliber bullet in the right spot will work.

If TSX bullets shoot well in your rifle the 270 and 300 gn bullets are definitely suitable if you can find factory ammo. I have killed two Eland with TSX 300gn which worked perfectly.

For larger animals, penetration is very important, second only to importance to bullet placement.

Should be fine.

LD Eland are not hard to kill. However, they are pretty big and you want enough penetration.

If you wound one, that's generally trouble. You need as much blood and a big hole.

The CX is Hornady’s monometal bullet with a plastic tip. I’ve shot very few of them because the ones I tried I could neither get velocity or accuracy out of.

But they should penetrate fairly well given velocity.

Maybe I missed it, but what cartridge are you using?
There is a huge difference in a 250GR bullet in a 358 Win, vs a 338 Win Mag!!
Many Eland have been shot with an old standby 30-06 and a good bullet, Nosler, Barnes, Swift A-Frame... but I would prefer a 300H&H or WinMag, better a 338WinMag....
Like Saeed says, Bullet Placement is CRITICAL!!

I have shot eland with 150 grain 277 caliber bullet at 500 yards!

I know where there is at least 6 boxes of 225 TTSX Branes loaded ammo for sale.


Also, you csn contact Superior or Hendershot for 250 grain TTSX or TSX bullets ammo.

I love 250s in the 338 WM. However, a 225 branes or Hornady mono is just as good as most 250 grain bullets. Some would say best.

Just out of curiosity.

I had several 270 caliber wildcats.

Hunted with them many years in Zimbabwe.

Tried 130, 140 and 150 grain bullets from various makers.

Barnes X, Trophy Bonded Bear Claws, Jensen Solid Base.

I shot literally hundreds of game animals with these.

There was absolutely no way to tell if one was better than the others!

Not sure what caliber we are talking about, but shoot them in the heart and they go down quickly. I's a pretty big target.

I just tested some 300 grain TSX bullets and poi is significantly different than the 250 grain CX loads.

I will be taking 40 rounds of 250 grain CX Hornady Outfitter ammo. 375 caliber.

Best of luck! I'm confident that the CX loads are going to work well for you.

I leave for Cameroon February 1 so I have a few more sleeps than you and sleeping has been difficult as of late with LDE on the mind...

Now that we know you are shooting a 375-SOMETHING, it is interesting you comment that the 250gr prints much different than the 300gr!! All my 375 H&Hs over the years have printed identical with 270 and 300gr loads??!!
The 250s must be loaded pretty hot to print that much differently!! I would expect maybe 1" higher??
Be careful in that tropical heat of LDE territory with high pressure loads... they will be more sticky at these temps than at home!!
