Sounds like fun and great practice. Nothing beats practising on fur, hair and skin in the field. Smiler

You sure a 450#2 has enough grunt for a whitetail?

Really Sure?

As long as someone is backing you up with a .500

Mike, I should've had that 450 to blow holes in the 10" we got down here! While sipping coffee after clearing it I was watching 8 does and a legal buck in my corn field behind the house. can't believe no one has laid him low as of yet. TLM

Have killed a couple of deer with the Seary .470 and a couple with the Chapuis 9,3x74R. However, I could never quite bring myself to haul either out in the snow.

Good luck with the deer hunt!

Nice shooting.
That is the load I use with 480/500 grain bullets in my No2. Try 81 grains of IMR 3031 with the Hornady 350 RN, with filler of course. Hits the same place as the 480/500 grainers out to 200 yards. Has a little less recoil. Velocity @2330 fps in my 28" bbls.
Killes deer and wild pigs very good.

How you like the 450#2 on deer. Still trying to decide if I am brave enough to getmine converted. Make sure you keep those rl15 results for me thats most likely what ill use if I convert.

Gentlemen, thank you..

Dean, that is the first time I used a 40+ caliber for deer a supersized 45/70...Recoil was like nothing...

Not a big exit hole but you can put your thumb in the entrance hole...
Not bad for a guy who really does not shoot open sights..More practice will be in order...

Mike:

Like you and any humane hunter I have never believed in being undergunned for North American game. I have seen some New Brunswick whitetails that looked like elk compared to the runty whitetails this Southern NY hunter was used to. Come to think of it, I would have preferred the 470, N.E. Smiler
