Bow hunting recommendations in Namibia?
I have a friend who want to hunt plains game in Namibia with a bow, for his first African hunt.

Are there any weapon permit requirements for hunting bows and arrows?

Can anyone recommend some good (bow friendly) outfitters in the highlands?

Its been a long time since I did any research regarding bowhunting Africa. My info would be outdated.

You might want to post this in the bow section.

Also the "Bowsite" forum has a big active Africa section. Your friend should be able to find out all he needs to know right there.

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Several of us here make yearly trips with our bows to Namibia,,, Makalaan Farms, it is one of my favorites. Max 4 bow hunters at a time, great animals low fees, great accommodations, and wonderful food. Several of my buddies will be there in less than 90 days, it will be 2017 before I can get back over.

Allan Cilliers or Ben van Wyk would be my recommendation.

Thanks guys, I'll pass along the information.

I found Makalaan Safaris and Cilliers hunting safaris but the only Van Wyk safari company is a Steven, not Ben.

Been a long time since I bowhunted in Namibia. I went in 2004 and 2007, both times with Allan Cilliers Bow Hunting Safaris. In 2004, I hunted with Allan and met his sons, Wayne and Steven. In 2007, Allan was hunting in the Caprivi and Wayne had taken over the bowhunting. I had a great time and got to know the Cilliers family well. Jackie (Allan's wife) runs a tight ship.

The bushmen trackers are amazing. Nine to 12 years is an eternity in Africa, but it was a very good place to hunt then, and the Cilliers are great folks.

Back in 2007, no issues with a bringing in a bow and arrows, except that my customs inspector wanted an arrow on the way out -- no problem. Haven't kept up with regs there. I'd use someone like Steve Turner at Travel with Guns.

Another +1 for Roger Coomber. I have not hunted with him but I have heard only good reports. He is a bowhunting specialist and a member of good standing on this fine forum!!!
