The clip is from a "In the Crosshairs" video. Great video. I believe the PH was Peter Chipman and the client Wes Hixon, a booking agent. You should really see the whole thing. It is awesome!

JefferyDenmarkThank SBT you I did not know that just came across it at my local safari club web site.

jorgeGents; I bought the video a few years back at SCI and met both Wes and Peter at the past convention. That charge was for real. If you watch it carefully, you can count the number of shots fired. 375s & 458s. Tell you what though, it's the best case for a double rifle I've ever seen! Had Peter had a double, the charge while exciting would not have ended the way it did. jorge

JefferyDenmarkThere are alot of dvds on that site you posted SBT. Do you recomend any ? Dvds only the American videos do not work in Europe.
I love safari movies.

ErikDHoly Shit! What a video. I'm also amazed that the guy who was dragged down to the ground by the Lion didn't get shot! Or maybe he did get nicked? Does anybody know? There was a lot of lead flying within what had to be inches from him!

Bill CDave J - no, this was not the incident where the TBBC reportedly "failed".
Erik - amazingly enough, and to the credit of the hunter and the other PH, Peter Chipman was not shot.
Interesting side-note, one of the early shots hit the lion in the lower jaw, which is why he was not able to bite down on Peter.

p dog shooter7 shots where fired what makes you think that one or two more from a double would have made the differants. Makeing your shots count matters much more then the gun your using.

tommygunn5645I can't seem to find the video on that site. I'm not sure if they took it down or not. Does anyone else have the ability to post the clip?
20 April 2004, 08:01
jorgePDog shooter: Because when the lion charged, the PH who was the object of the lion's attention, was only able to get off one shot before the lion was on him, that's why. The other shots were poorly placed, well behind the vitals. Had the PH had a double, he could have nailed the lion with a second shot right before he was on him. jorge

30ott6Would have been nice to add a bayonet to the double although fitting it would be easier on a bolt gun.

retreeverJorge,
I pegged it right that cat was hit in the mouth...But I also felt they shot at the cat to far out...The cat was not visible when they shot at him...but I was not there and you heard the growl and here he comes and shots fired..Yes a second barrel at point maybe would have changed the outcome...That cat was real sick he was not running very fast...But the video will have to be watched to judge it truthfully...Still ones hair stands up watching it..

gotogirl3If you want to know true bravery, see my post on "The Real Challenge."
You know, I can stand snakes (as long as they don't surprise me), they can crawl on me, I'll hold them, etc., but I will strip if a bug gets in my clothes and I will stand on furniture and scream bloody murder over a mouse. WOMEN!!!

p dog shooterMaybe maybe not he could have missed also or maybe not even gotten the shot off. I like doubles but they are not the cure all for badly placed first shots. He could have brain or spined him then he might not have.
