KITWE Mayor Stephen Chipungu has called on the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) to crop crocodiles in the Kafue River.
The crocodiles are said to have increased and terrorise people who live near the river and depend on it for water.
Mr Chipungu said the latest victim of a crocodile attack is a 20-year-old man of Mwaiseni township who was attacked two weeks ago.
The body of the victim is still missing.
Mr Chipungu, who is Lubwa ward councillor, said ZAWA should dispatch officers to the Kafue River to crop crocodiles to safeguard the lives of people in surrounding communities.
He appealed to residents in Mwaiseni to avoid drawing water from the Kafue River.
“ZAWA should crop some of the crocodiles in the Kafue River because they are a threat to human life.
I appeal to residents of Mwaiseni to stop drawing water from the Kafue River,” Mr Chipungu said.
He said with the onset of the rainy season, crocodile attacks may increase.
Fire Brigade chief fire officer Joseph Mwape said yesterday his team is still searching for the body of the man who was attacked by a crocodile.
“This man went to draw water from the Kafue River when a crocodile attacked him and dragged him into the water…we are still looking for the body,” Mr Mwape said.
