Buff Hunt II --Hunt Details--Costing--Member Poll
AR Members,

As promised, the following is breakdown and summary of the proposed Buff Raffle II.

Ann has put together a ten-day hunt using HHK Outfitters. It will allow the winner and observer the necessary time to go after and shoot a Buff. The cost is not cheap, but is necessary due to whats being provided.

We are allowing a small pad of three thousand for transport from airport to the hunting area, and about one thousand for Anns use in the handling of the hunt to cover costs such as wire transfers and postage. Any monies not used in these costs will be given to the winner for his use in the hunt.

A few things not covered will be the tipping to the PH, and his staff. Any taxes on the prize by any government agency. Airfare above the four thousand dollars allowed in the prize. If travel requires funds above that amount, the winner and observer will be required to handle it.

10 Day Buffalo Hunt - $850 per day T= $8500
10 Day Observer - $175 per day T= $1750
Buffalo bull trophy fee - $2000
2% Zim Gov't tax - $245 approximately
Dip and Pack - $600
Airfare allowance for 2 travelers - $4000
-------------------------------------------
Total $17,095
Pad 3,905

Total $21,000

If we charge $35.00 for 600 entries, we will have the necessary funds to provide a great trip for the winner and his observer. No special offer on entries as all entries should be of equal value.

Now, before we continue with this effort, we are asking that you as members, give us feedback as to weather this is possible. Simply reply to this thread with your name and number of entries you wish to purchase.

You may feel the pad is not necessary, but with Ann not being able to lock down prices on transport in Africa at this time, coupled with the monies needed to do wire transfers and long distance calls, funds are warranted. Remember, any unused monies will be given to the winner and observer.

The observer will of course be selected by the winner from AR membership with at least one entry by that individual.

Complete rules will be posted before any money collection commences.

OK, lets see those responses.

That sounds very good! You seam to have it covered well.
Would there be a limit on tickets per person? I wound take 5 to 10 tickets for myself. Let me know when and where to send the money...

Two suggestions:

1. If selling tickets for $35 each, offer 3 at $100, it only costs $6 and many people will buy 3 that way. Just add a few extra tickets to the total number to compensate.

2. Offer the prize based on a minimum prize and a target prize. That way if raffle doesn't sell out but reaches a minimum sale level it doesn't fall through AND you don't have to get everyones permission to offer the lesser prize.

eg

10 Day Buffalo Hunt - $850 per day T= $8500

Buffalo bull trophy fee - $2000

2% Zim Gov't tax - $245 approximately

"Pad or whatever" - $3,905

Minimum Prize value $15,000 approx

Additional subject to sufficient ticket sales (in order as additional monies allow):

1. Airfare allowance for hunter - $2000

2. Dip and Pack - $600

3. 10 Day Observer - $175 per day T= $1750

4. Airfare allowance for hunter - $2000

Additional prizes if ticket sales allow - $6000

Total $21,000

I would go even further and drop the value of the $15,000.

Just suggestions/ideas. Its up to you.

I'm in and I like NitroX's suggestion... Shoot for the higher tier, but if after a set time the funds only reach the lower, go for it!

I might be in. However, the last hunt provided 1 chance in 100 for $100 if I recall correctly, whereas this one will be less than one chance in 160. I would GREATLY favor a less fancy safari for better odds if I surrender a c-note to the game.

BTW, think about your publicized random number generator and how you are going to work it to give equal chance to 650 numbers. Perhaps everyone is happy with the DWJ, but I'm not so sure, the devil will be in the details.

Last point, if you require a lottery player to be chosen as the tag along vs just someone on AR, I am much less likely to play as well. Last time, any AR poster could quality for observer.

Just my 2 cents.

I would be in for between 1-3 chances...depending on the final rules.

I will probably take 3.

If you are going to set a floor for not raising the full 21,000. Cut out the observer and that airfare ($3,750), instead of taking away from the hunt. The raffle is so that someone gets to go get a buff first and foremost. Having an observer would be nice, but I would rather go alone that with someone I didnot really know.

This will probably be the only way many of the raffle ticket buyers will ever have to experiance their dream hunt of facing a buff in Africa.

Just my .02.

Sounds good so far. Like Nitrox's suggestion.

Not really concerned whether or not my "shadow" is a player or not, but would have to be from AR.

Either way, I'm in for four chances.

I'm in for 3 - would prefer Nitro's suggestion as to the $100 option. As to the observer, should I win, I'd like to pick another from the 600 ticket purchasers that hasn't hunted buff before (No offense to the buff vets).

Is this date sensitive?? I'm assuming HHK has openings for 2005 and we aren't talking about 2007 or 2008.

I would prefer Nitro's suggestion as to the $100 option (or 105 if need be).
Forward me the paiement mode. Paypal seems to be the best.

I am in for 3 or more and concur with Nitrox's suggestion.

I do think that the daily rate is a bit high when only hunting one or two buffalos and no other DG.
Barry from Brookslands offered me a buffalo hunt for plaines game daily rate 350 $ and I would still be able to hunt one bull and a cow. Just had to shoot 3000 $ in plaines game wich I would anyway.
Normal buffalo rate is 750 and 650 2/2

Count me in for 3. I too like Nitro's suggestions. IMO, the "pad" seems WAY to "padded". Wire transfers and phone calls should not approach anywhere near that amount.
