The memories of this trip will cause you to want to go back again and again and again. Who knows how much you could spend on future safaris just because of this one. The $$$ could be mind blowing.

From what I see most everything is free on this trip. I would bring enough extra cash to cover tips, soveniers, and possible an extra animal or two. If you plan to stay longer and do sight seeing also add that in. The biggest cost would be the taxidermy bill.

Its going to cost me a good bit since I'm going to extend it to 21 days if I win!!

Saeed set fourth the details to you, review that,basically as I recall, it pays for everything including coach airfare from the US to Africa, daily rate and trophy fees for a 16 day hunt, two buffalo and a lot of plainsgame. You will need to pay $200 per gun that you take and the airport ammo tax of $10 to $30 dollars (maybe) some times they ask and sometimes they don't, and thats Africa...

Tips to PH and staff are to be paid by you, Hotel fees before and after are yours to pay at $150 per night, we will make all reservations and put it on your bill for your guns and hotel at a discounted rate of ?...You can extend the hunt to 21 days and hunt whatever you wish Lion, Elephant, Leopard etc. maybe/hopefully, depending on scheduling..

I think that is fairly accurate, but 2006 is a long way off and we will iron out the kinks once the drawing is done....

The import fees for two guns is paid as part of the prize as well as the hotels room the night before the safari and the 1/2 day after.

When I win I'm going to need to take three weeks off from work. I figure it will be about $3,000 in tips plus a $1,000 for fees (Bakeesh?), expediting help through the airport, souvenirs, etc, Plus I figure I'd better have $2,000 for the "book" Kudu or other antelope that I know I will see that is not included on the list.

I figure I'd better commit to another $5000-6000.

I think the fact that its a free hunt for 2 buffalo in Tanzania is all that really matters.If you win take observer who upgrades to hunter and pays you the differance.That would make it a win for you and the P.H. as well.

This is a 16-day hunt in the Selous
One hunter and one observer with Pierre van Tonder Safaris.

Dates are as follows:

Hunt is for next year, 2006

28th of July arrive in Dar Essalam
29th of July fly out to camp
30th of July to 14th of August hunt
15th of August fly back to Dar Essal and in the evening fly back home.

Hunt includes all daily fees and trophies for the following animals:

2 buffaloes
1 Hartebeest
1 Impala
1 Waterbuck
1 Warthog
1 Nyasa wildebeest
1 Zebra
1 Topi

Import duty for 2 rifles
One night shared hotel room for one day before the hunt, and half a day at the same hotel after the hunt.
2 return air tickets from the country of origin of the winner, to Tanzania.

Anything that is not specifically mentioned above, is NOT included.



Charter Fee, Dip-Pack & Crate/Export Tax, Ammo Tax, Hunting License and Gratuities are not mentioned so I assume they will be the winner's expense for those items. [My rough estimate would be $7,500]. Plus shipping of trophies to your home country [cost will depend on final destination; rough estimate of $2,500-$3,000]. Looks like approximately $10,000 cost to winner.

Not sure if Concession Fees are covered under the "daily fees". [Add another $1,600 if not included in "daily fees"].

Winner's cost would increase by any additional Trophy Fees.

Any of you gentlemen who wouldn't pony up $10,000 for a 16 day hunt in the Selous, be sure and contact me if you win...I'll take it off your hands for $10,000 if I have to beg, borrow or steal it! God only gave me so many sunrises and I want to view as many of them as possible in Africa! And the Selous would be one of my "top 5" places for viewing. Hell, it would be worth it just to hunt with Saeed and his crew.

The above is just my best estimate, based on Saeed's original post. I don't have any "inside information". So I may be off the mark, but if my assumptions are correct, then my estimate should be in the ballpark.

Day rates
Gov. fees
use of 4x4 vehicles and staff
Hunting license
Dip and pack of trophies
Air Charter in and out.

We do not include:
Rifle import fee: (Saeed included this)
Trophy fees (included by Saeed)
Observer Fees (included by Saeed)
Hotels before and after (included by Saeed)
Ammo Tax ( a minor expense )
Air Cargo charges for shipment of trophies to be paid by the hunter..

At any rate all this will be fine tuned after the drawing and when you contact me, as you may want to upgrade, shoot more animals, lengthen the hunt if possible, even change the date if possible, any changes will be at our discrestion and dependent on our schedule and availability, we will try our level best to accomodate any reasonalble request...

OK then, revise my estimate of winner's cost to $5,500 [gratuities: $1,600 PH; $800 Staff; $100 Game Scout; and $3,000 trophy shipment].

Based on the above I don't see how the hunt will cost you $7500. or anywhere near it..

The hunt is basically paid for, other than tips, that are optional, and the tip is a gift. you only need tip what you can afford and it will be appreciated, end of story..

Basically your only cost of any significant amount will be a year later when you receive your trophies, probably about $2500. and if thats a problem then take pictures and leave your trophies in camp, or just bring a portion of them back, such as skulls etc., whatever..you still get the hunt, pictures, and memories evem of you choose to leave all the trophies behind and that, in itself, ain't no bad deal...

Other than that, your only cost seems to be a $30.00 ammo tax and a few meals..


Saeed didn't include some of the expenses simply because they are furnished by us on all our hunts, and he was extremely generous, and specific about most of the hunt being paid for so that anyone who wins can do it, so anyone else adding expenses to our hunts without referring to our brochure or withouit contacting us direct has no idea what we include or do not include although I posted it above in another post...

Ya'll should probably direct such questions to me, whoever wins contact me and between Saee, myself and Pierre we can probably work through any problems you may have and then you can post all about it when you get back from a wonderful hunt...

That sounds great to me! Hey, even if I don't win I am $10,000 better off. And if you count the tax I don't pay I am $18,000 better off! At least I think I am better off. And if I win, as I plan to do, I will be a lot better off!!
