GanyanaPleasure steve. What is the point of having a game scout along if you cannot scare him witless while at the same time remaining cool, carm and collected and therefore deserving of the officers rank on your shoulder or the title "sir" "Bwana", "Mambo" or "Thaaaankyou bass you my herro"

.
One tiny flaw in that plan .... if they have their ears back.

HunterJimGanyana,
So how many "piercings" does the ele have to have to be declared a problem animal?

When the ears are back and the ele is approaching at 40 MPH then it is a genuine problem animal, not just a miscreant!
In truth, After the second occasion, that ele has learned and at the snick of a safety being taken off, or even the distant sound of a cruiser engine it is headed at full speed - ears flapping to add that extra 2 mph - back towards the park boundary!!! Alternitively, if she is a tuskless cow with bad PMS she will find a nice thicket to hide in and wait for you to walk past. The see paragraph 1 on seperating problem from mischievious
Ganyana,
The interesting thing about cows is that you never know what they are going to do. I really would hate to chance the ear-piercing theory when one is about to step on me.

thats the nice thing about elephants. Their body language is readable and predictable. And cows, are - well cows. They have a grudge. One doesn't try ear pieceing on cows at night unless they are definately not moving towards you! One through the ear from behind to remind them to stay away is good.
You have old elephant hunters and you have bold elephant hunters, but most of the old-bold ones are doing "plat as pancake impressions.

MikelravyI'd like to try that with the teenagers that litter my woods with Natural Ice cans most weekends.

BoghossianWill you proceed with these piercings when the animal is within short range (ie. can get to you before you can reload)?
BTW do you have to aim for the outer edge of the ear to avoid hitting the belly?
