Air ticket prices to DSC.....
Just was looking at booking tickets to Dallas for January, and was shocked by the prices.

They are "double" what I paid last year for the same flights.

The best deal I found was to drive to Chicago Midway, and take South West to Love Field as that is half the price of using American or United with connections to DAL or DFW.

Southwest bought hedges on fuel and stored it in a few huge tanks they have. That'll eventually run out, but for now they continue to kick butt.

It will be interesting to see how the high fuel prices affect the attendance at DSC and SCI.
One friend said that any guy that could afford a $12,000 rifle was not going to worrry about fuel cost to get to a convention. Still the guy that works hard for his money may try and book his hunt on line or via phone and not go to see the big city lights. He may use that money for another animal or part of his air fare. Being as I have lots of money invested in booth spaces and merchandise I hope that everyone shows up and brings lots of money to spend!

You can borrow money but you can not borrow time. Go hunting with your family.

Not that I "can't" afford a $12,000 rifle or $10,000 safari, I hate to have to pay $575.00 to fly from Michigan to Dallas when last year I paid $273.00 (Personally I choose to use a $500 rifle and shoot more game.)

What is worse, I can fly all the way from Michigan to Hawaii for $1,072.00

I'm trying to figure out whether to go to DSC or SCI Reno. It would be my first trip to either.

DSC is a smaller show, but a lot cheaper for entrance fees. Air tickets would be about the same I'm guessing.

The same friends will be at each...but my parents live in Ft. Worth so there wouldn't be any hotel expense for TX.

I'm wondering how long Gracy will hold the line on prices for 2009. I am buying(or trying to!) 4 seats to Windhoek which will be 330 days out in exactly 30 days. Keeping my fingers crossed. These US domestics flights are just going vertical!

Let's see, for every 4 people that I fit into one twin bed...that gets me 1/2 daily rate for...did I just say that out loud?

I need to do the same thing but mine are for end of July 2009. I'm not sure how early I can do that?

Booking those tickets that far out is a "money saver", but what if plans change?

Now what ?

I am not quite ready to book but just wanted to see how bad it is. As soon as the Judge blocks the rooms at CI I will probably book the motel and air and if things go south I will just have to eat the loss. I booked last year in July.

Continental Airlines just announced that they were dropping service to Reno. That's going to make getting from Houston (and elsewhere) to Reno extra difficult now.

Perhaps Continental will restart service this winter, but I think it would be very unlikely unless fuel prices come down and the economy picks-up quickly. The airlines have a great forward look at the economy from their customer's advance bookings - it must not be a pretty picture.
