I look at it this way..If one understands the brain location and also understands that the head position is where you place the shot...Not just between the eyes..

After the first 3 or 4 elephants I took with brain shots I figured I had it down pat. Now that I am up to a 13 I realize that I don't have it down pat and that it is much more difficult then I thought. The more experience you get the more different problems come up. The elephant may be above or below you. The head from the front can be very low as in a charge to very high when it is looking down his nose at you. Is he straight on or quartering to or away from you. The elephant may be very tall or very short, the head may move just as you fire, can you place the bullet where you want every time? Does brush or grass partialy block your view and make it difficult to see the brain. I don't think you are trully experienced until you can see the head wirth x-ray vision and locate the brain from all angles. I'm not there yet.

Walt,

There are few guys probably still alive that can see the brain. I asked Richard Harland about it one time but he is so far beyond the first time that he really didn't know how to explain it.

Sometimes I think I'm on the verge but doubt that I will ever get the chance to complete it. It just takes too many elephants and there is
so little time, and money!

There are few guys that I have hunted with (any PH) that I would trust for an absolute 100% guaranteed brain shot. Though I have never seen him in action, PH Andy Hunter is probably there, for the guaranteed brain shot. Whether he sees the brain or not, I do not know.

The last time I hunted with him, he was trying to force me to look at the "diagrams" in some book. This is after I has brained elephants while hunting with him! I told him I was not interested in his advice or diagrams!

I don't think anyone can arrive at this level of seeing the brain without a hell of alot of elephants being taken. I could be wrong, but there are probably few PH's that could do it...maybe Gomez, Andy, and a few others. Who do you know that can brain an elephant with 100% certainty?

That's what I thought! Smiler

Gomez probably has shot several thousand elephants with brain shots on PAC and culling teams. Yet I saw him miss the brain on a charging cow at 6 paces. No one can reach the 100% level IMHO. BTY he didn't miss on the second shot.

You're nobody unless you have shot 100 elephants. We are all nobody.
