CaracalFairgame's Royal Kafue
Hello fellow AR-Members
many of you know that our own “Fairgame“ (Andrew Baldry) has got a new project, called “Royal Kafue“, in Zambia. The Royal Kafue is a 45,000 acre unfenced private property on the beautiful Kafue river. The area is just across the river from the famous Lunga Luswishi hunting block that is known for its superb hunting.
Andrew has managed the area for about 2 years and has invested a lot time and money to stop poaching and illegal fishing. The game has responded well to Andrew‘s efforts and due to the closeness to Kafue National Park and the Mushingashi Conservancy the game numbers are recovering very fast.
Since there had been late heavy rains Andrew was a little bit behind scedule and we made the plan that I should help him a little bit to set the camp up for his first client in June. So at the beginning of March I went over to help Andrew with the camp and to do some scouting in the area. The plan was to set up a rustic camp for Jim and his wife Joyce and I guess we have exceeded his requirements of a rustic camp by far.
Here are some pictures of the camp:
The number of game was very good and I saw Sable, Puku, Impala etc. on daily basis, as well as regual sighting of Oribi, Waterbuck, Roan and Hartebeest.
I found various tracks of Leopard, Lion, Reedbuck and bushpig and Hyena.
The swamps showed a good sitatunga activity. We heard the lions calling on several nights.
As well as regualar signs of buffalo in the area.
The AR-Member Jim and his wife Joyce were keen enough to book the first safari on this promising new area.
Jim and Joyce are hunting in the royal kafue at the moment. Knowing that Andrew is an excellent hardworking PH and an extraordinary nice guy I’m convinced they will have a wonderful hunt!
I am sure we will get a detailed report from Jim as soon as he and his wife Joyce are back from their adventure on the kafue river. I’m really looking forward to their report on this promising piece of land on the banks of the kafue!

Jorge400Great job you did there!
Andrew talked a good bit about this project on the AR Kafue Flats hunt last year. It will be interesting to see it evolve to say the least.
Thanks for posting.

D. NelsonCaracal;
I've heard from Jim via satellite phone (see my thread "Frostbit report Day 3".) He and Joyce love the camp, to say the least. As of day 3 he has already taken huge Waterbuck, Hartebeest and Roan.
Fairgame's (and your) efforts have really paid off.
Best regards, D. Nelson

MARK H. YOUNGCaracal,
Andrew told me he very much appreciated all your help in building the camp and I'm very much looking forward to seeing your handy work in September. I might even shoot something if Jim and Joyce have left anything alive.

Todd WilliamsThat is a most inviting looking camp! I hope they have a great safari. You guys should be very proud of your project there.
When is the last time a bunch of Greenies made the investment and rehabilitated an area like this? I would bet never! This project should make all hunters proud.

Hentie van HeerdenAny camp or no camp, its definitely worth a trip just to spend some nights around a campfire with Mr. Fairgame!
In 2006 Andrew was looking across the Kafue river, mentioning that the land lying on the opposite river bank will have allot of hunting potential, if managed well for a couple of years. He pulled it off, congratulation Andrew!
Beautiful camp!!!

fairgameThanks mate for all your help. Much appreciated.
Photoclip from video courtesy of Frosbit.
Started to see some big Sable bulls come in after your departure. Lots of Buff and with them came the Lion.
Will send you an update during the season.
Did you get a better pic of that big trophy buffalo bull behind camp?
Cheers

That Sable clip was a couple of days AFTER I shot mine. I think they must have been twins.

It's 2:30 AM in Dallas and we are overnighting on the way home. I'm jet lagged and can't sleep. I'm tapping this on an iPhone. I think you need to buy some patience. You must have been fun at Christmas.
