Finally going- And it's Boddington's fault!!
I am heading to Namibia next year on my first safari for plains game with a good friend and AR lurker, who has regaled me with tales of his adventures in Africa for several years now.

But honestly, it's mostly Boddington's fault. Once upon a time at a sportsman's show in Utah, he sat down with me and we talked about the chase. His eyes positively glowed when he spoke of Africa, and he told me that he wished he could see my face when I see my first African sunrise.

My friend is positively torturing me with Boddington DVD's on a weekly basis as if I need to be any more excited.

Well, Mr. Boddington, Sir, I am finally going! And I shall most defintely arrange for the photo of that first sunrise just for you. I hope you heal quickly and well and are soon once again sharing the tales you tell so well.

The rest of you, keep up the pics and stories, they just make me smile all the larger!

A hearty welcome for sure!

Watch out boys, all you tellers of lies
We've got a new girl here, with blood lust in her eyes.
She's a killer of creatures, she just likes them all
They've fallen to her skills, be they big or real small.

Moose, deer, or elk - they've fallen, dagnabit
How bad can it be, she even hunts rabbit!
It was time for Africa, Namibia her first
It'll just be a sip, to start off her thirst.

The one thing I question, her judgement to shoot
Wants a black wildebeest, just thinks they're cute!
Pull a chair up to the fire, and spin us some tales
you'll fit right in here, with us know-it-all males. Smiler

Great to have you show up, will still call you my friend
Stick by your side, thru my thick and your thin.
There's some lack of judgement here, she hangs out with me
And some other close kin, from the same family tree.

When we first met, I told her she was cuter than a peach basket full of new puppies. I never have learned if that bothered or pleased her, but she's tolerated me ever since.

Namibia is a great choice for a first safari. I went there for my first safari in 2008 and that got me hooked! This year it's Zimbabwe and the next one will be .........

Preddy - I can totally relate. I first hunted with Craig several times when I was 20-21 yrs old, here in Colorado. When we weren't actually hunting, I was certainly irritating him with all my questions about Africa. His books, articles, and personal stories about the dark continent, captured me for-sure. By age 23, I was on my first safari! His influence has definitely been widespread.

Good heavens Joel!! ROFLMAO!!

I had no idea of the poet within you, big buddy. That needs to go on the campfire on our other haunt. <grin>

Honestly, can't wait. And I didn't say black wildebeest were cute; I said they are bulldog ugly.

Do not for a moment think that by going you are getting this out of your system. That's not how it works.

Enjoy every minute...

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Joel, if you are going to start hrowing down photos, my friend, i may have to return the favor. 

I really appreciate the welcome here. Africa has remained a dream in part because even though safari is the best literal bang for your buck around, I still costs bucks. I have the relative luxury of a year to save, but it is a challenge nonetheless. I say now, like I am sure you all did, that Africa will be one trip in my lifetime. We shall see. Joel said the same thing, but he's managed to go back every couple of years.

Arild, I really look forward to hearing about your trip! What animals do you have planned?

ONe trip in a lifetime? Yeah, right. Like eating one Lays potato chip!

You WILL go back, trust all of us when we say that. Don't even harbor the pretense that it'll be a one time thing, it won't be.
