Kampala — BUFFALOES believed to have strayed from Kidepo National Park have sent panic in Katakwi Sub-county in Katakwi District.
Resident said their lives are in danger. Many are avoiding the well from where they collect water and firewood in the bushes, fearing for their lives.
The population of the animals is not known, but some residents said there are two buffaloes.
"I saw those animals while I was grazing my cows, they attacked women who were fetching water from a nearby well and we took off," Peter Opio of Aliakamer village said.
Aloysius Olupot of Apuuton village lamented said: "The authorities must come to our rescue because the buffaloes are now close to our homes and we no longer move freely."
Last year, the Police shot a buffalo after it invaded Apuuton village threatening people's lives. But the Uganda Wildlife Authority protested the killing.
The game ranger in charge of Pian Upe Game Reserve, Wilbert Ediau Ecodu, said he had dispatched some men to the affected villages to protect lives.
