okie johnPronunciation Question
Tanzania. I've always pronounced it "TAN-zuh-NEE-ah" but I was just talking with a very experienced hunter who pronounced it "Tan-ZANE-ee-ah."
As you can tell by my handle, I hail from Oklahoma, and the years have taught me that I am at something of a disadvantage when it comes to pronuncing foriegn words.
thanks,
Okie John

AtkinsonAfricans say Tan zania and Americans say Tanz a nia....

NitroXAs it comes from the old "Tanganyika" (splg?) ie TAN, and "Zanzibar" ie ZAN, I think the Africans may have it right.

What about
TAN - ZAN - IA ?
Also like the rest of the world uses
zeb-ra
like our Northern American cousins use
ZEE-bra.

trapntravWhat about "Nyala", I've heard it as "in"yala, N"eye"ala and "Nee"ala?

DPhillipsI've heard Nyala pronounced two ways:
"N"-Yala and
NY-ala
I believe "N"-Yala is correct.
How about Kafue?
