Leopard in August?
How is the second half of August for a Leopard hunt in the Save. Is this a little late to have best results?

good a time as any. i've hunted spots from march through september and everywhere in between & come to the conclusion that there really isn't one time that is much better than another. each time of year has its plus and minus characteristics the save is prime leopard area for big cats and there are alot of them there

Last big one I killed there was in september. Those leopard live there. Thier patterns may change a little from day to day but they still have to eat, screw, and fight the same as they do the other 11 months out of the year. If your PH is on the ball, and you have a little luck, leopard in august is a great combo for whacking a big cat.

Maybe some of the PH's can chime in a bit but what months may be better than others and why? I plan on hunting Buffalo and plainsgame as well so I guess August is a all round good time in the SAVE but wanted to know if sooner would have been better for leopard or not or if it matters a whole lot.

I understand in the middle of August in 2012 the moon is dark which I believe helps me some if I am reading the charts right. Hope so!

What area in the Savé ? Dogs or bait ? If I would go there again for a bait hunt it would be June. With dogs July/Aug.

August is not a bad time but later in the year it will get real hot in the Savé.

With that said, I took two leopards last year in September/October.

Hunting out of Zambezi hunters camp in the Save over bait to answer the questions. I was wanting a bit earlier in July but they are booked up. They either had April/May or Start date of August 14th. Hope it is still o.k?

I've been told by some PHs to avoid when the wart hogs are having their young. Too much fresh food running around for the leopards. Not sure when that is. Perhaps some PHs have an opinion.

You will have à very good time and have a very good chance to get your leopard. Sango or Hammond/Arda ? Ph?

August is good as it is the end of winter and the driesest part of the year. The Leopard move a lot to hunt and a lot easier to get in a tree, as food is scarce. Also ussualy a bit windy, and if the PH gets that bit right, it CAN help mask your sent and noise in the blind.

My comments above are relating to baited leopard from a blind, and not dogs, of which I know nothing about.

My leopard was taken in the last part of August on the first sit. He came during daylight as well. This was in the Zambezi Valley and it was plenty hot and humid...
