308 Win Through RSA and Zim
Has anyone had an issue with entering RSA or Zim with a rifle chambered in 308 Win? Saps form states no military weapons. Planning to bring a TC Encore in 308.

I think that means AR-15's & such, not so much the caliber.
Somebody on here could prove me wrong though.

I carried a stainless Remington Model 7 chambered in 308 thru Namibia, RSA and on to Zim and back with no problems............ BUT was never "checked" very thoroughly.

However, I believe that it is technically against regulations. The same as ammo or rifles chambered 223/5.56, or 7.62x39!

The fact that is will be marked 308 on the barrel instead of "7.62x51" will afford you some protection, unless you run up on an official that really knows his stuff!

as he said? Just no mortars, GPMGs and the like. I own a .223, a .303, and a 30-06.

I used my bolt action .308 Win last year in both RSA and Zim and had zero problems with permits.

Check RSA about bringing a hanbgun in. Zim wanted scopes on handguns.

Thanks for the help. It looks like the 308 should pass through customs in RSA and Zim, take a number of nasty bait animals for the leopard to munch on and make it back to the good 'ol USA without endangering human life.
