This Is Africa!
This Is Africa!
My PH was in his boat coming back from the flycamp, while they were in Chete.
A piece of paper flies and lands on him, he looks at it, and it was a page from a book by Winston Churchill.
He asked the tracker where he got it from, and what was he doing with it.
"I got it from the library in Binga. It is good for making cigarretes"
Imagine, he went to the library, picked a book of just teh right size, and many pages, so he could the pages to roll his smokes in!
I just burst out laughing. Winstone Churchill will be rolling in his grave

I don't know...
Winston was a smoker, and an africa veteran.
It probably wouldn't surprise him much.

"There always seems to be a big market for making the clear, complex."
^^Very good point. Hemingway is one of my favorite authors. I love him for the very reason that if someone used the pages of one of his books to roll cigarettes, he would probably be honored. That is Hemingway.
Hilarious story though Saeed. Thanks for sharing!

Hey,
Winston makes a good cigarette! Better than Marlboro!

Michael RobinsonAnybody remember this one?
"Winston tastes good, like a cigarette should . . ."

Sorry, that jingle brought back the third grader in me.

RIP,
But Jerry smoked unfiltered Camels!

I wonder what they are rolling in those pages?Elephant or rhino dung.
Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war;
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.
Minkman,
Thank you. Finally a Jerry Garcia joke.

He and Elvis are doing belly butts in music heaven, but that would be the sumu match from hell.
NitroX,
Yes, droll. Very kind of you.

Baboon,
I believe Jerry preferred camel dung, grass, etc.
Saeed,
Lo these many years ago, when I was enlisted in the USMC I was too poor to afford tailor-made smokes, so I bought bulk tobacco and rolled my own.
Problem was that cigarette papers were considered drug paraphernalia.
My solution was a Gideon Bible. Nice rice paper and just the right size.
Nearer my God, to thee! (I'm sure he'd understand...)
I've quit smoking now.
Tearing up the library books to roll cigarettes is the perfect metaphor for what is happening in Zimbabwe and RSA and ... up in smoke.
Don G,
Congratulations on kicking the habit. I smoked some cigarettes as an 8-year-old cigarette thief. I turned green and haven't wanted one since.

MinkmanRIP,
I believe that Garcia won in "Celebrity Death Match" on MTV a few years back. Karate didn't help Elvis against Jerry's hippie juju.

One of our trackers in Zimbabwe, who is an absolute master as a tracker, named Phineas.
He has never been to town in his life, and when he went to Bulawayo, ans saw some of high rise buildinhgs there, he refused to go up into one.
He said "only baboons live in places like these!"
