eyedocCongratulations are certainly in order and I sincerely hope you have many years to address those honey-do's and a little hunting as well!
We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

Aspen Hill AdventuresHo, Ho, Ho Dave! Now that's a Christmas present! Bet you are a happy guy. As a LEO, the group of us where I work all talk non-stop about retiring and we are only on our 20th years! I don't think I will stick it out as long as you did.

Thanks for your service to us all, and I'm sure we are all happy about your being able to retire "Mostly in one piece." You will enjoy retirement, I think. In fact, you will probably wonder why you didn't do it sooner. Now is the time to go on one of those hunting trips you dreamed about. You have the time.

Just went over 25 myself, but I'll keep working as long as I can keep my medical certificate and flying the helicopter for the taxpayers!!!

HonkeyCongrats,
I am jealous. I have at least 11 more years of wearing a gun belt to go before I am in the same boat. Enjoy it, wish I was there.
After 33 years you have earned it.

Frank MartinezWell Dave. I for one wish to offer my condolence. You will now begin the real work schedule. Your "Boss" will see to it and in no time you will begin to create reasons for running to the office or shopping. Your only hope will be to escape with your love on a celebration or your marriage, a safari hunt together and anything else you can think of to enjoy your time away from the job and to get you out of all the work at home.
My best wishes and a long life to enjoy it in.
Frank

Congratulations. That is a long time. I almost know how you feel. The main thing is to keep busy and spend the next few months doing something fun so you do not miss the job or the guys too bad.
Heck you should come on down to The Dallas Safari Show and hang out with the DRSS.

Jaco HumanHappy retirement. Enjoy the "to do" list. Don't overwork yourself, the "house to do's" can become a handfull. In anyway it's fun to do things with "mom", enjoy it.

bulldog563As a retirement present to yourself you should go to Africa on a hunt.
16 December 2005, 13:05
WinkDave, there is an interesting phenomena in my profession (civil engineering consultants for Africa): my guys long for retirement and take it as soon as they can swing it financially. Sometimes this leaves me in the lurch when the retire in the middle of an assignment but I understand their feelings and of course let them go. Then I wait six months and give them a call when I have another assignment. Here is the astounding part. 100% accept another assignment within the first year of retirement. Frequently their wives are relieved because you can only mow the lawn so much and if you've led and active life with professional challenges it is hard to just stop. So enjoy the next six months.

RamrodCongrats Dave - I can honestly say I know what it was like. Not to "one up you" but I'am retiring next month after 38 years in the same business. I think N E 450 2 is about to do the same. Best of luck to you and I hope you have a long and healthy retirement.
