I was wrong!

Andrea Sandri-BorianiI was wrong!
"I'm very happy with 458 Lott with a 13" barrel . It is very fast in action, not too heavy to carry, and the balance is superbe!
If you come to Phalaborwa you are very welcome to try it."
I'm not used of thinking in inches and I made a mistake. I measured the barrel and it is close to 18". My apologies.
Probably another one of those errors in converting from metric to British.
That's another reason not to go metric.

Andrea Sandri-BorianiHi Richard,
You come to Phalaborwa and I will give a remarkable hunt! When will you be here?
Best Regards

richardpowellHey, Andrea ,, a 13" barrel would be very fast !!

Here in Canada we went metric back in the 70's if I remember correctly .. To this day I get confused on the damn temperature .. I'm the guy that did make it to Phalaborwa two years ago but didn't have your phone number at the time .. and even though I stayed at that 'Impala' Inn .. I never asked .. and apparently they know you well..
I'm still upset about that. I'm off next week for 6 weeks in Namibia .. and will be in South Africa for a few days .. but probably won't be at the end of the country .. Will you have any more remarkable hunts offered like you had in 2002?

AtkinsonLordy but thats gonna be loud~!

probably suck the snot out of your nose...
Thank Goodness it's actually 18 inches. Imagine the muzzle blast from a 13 inch barrel.

Once I saw a PISTOL in caliber 50 BMG. The barrel was not longer than 12". The owner told me that the report was "loud" and the recoil "stiff".

Andrea Sandri-BorianiRichard,
Ask your travel agent to check the price for an Hoespruit (HDS) add-on. It may work cheaper than flying directly to Phalaborwa. I can fetch you there and we can shoot some game at 10 minutes drive from the airport.
You may stay at my place, that is about 500 yards distant from the Impala Inn. The cuisine is better.

richardpowellI'll ask her tomorrow ... I hope that she is in. Today was Canada Day. Our country is 137 years old today .. Hopefully she didn't take a long weekend ...

urdubobAndrea is a great guy. I had the great pleasure to hunt with him a couple of years ago. You will have a great time.
Urdubob
I had a customer walk thru the door once with a Rem XP 100 in 458 Win. Mag...he said he tried to get the smith to build him the same in 460 WBy. but the smith would not do it.
He demonstrated how you had to hold it when you shot it or get hit in the forehead with the front sight during recoil.
Broke the first guy's wrist that shot it.
Great conversation pc.!
A 13" bbl. in 458 might be a joy compared to that!

Hunt4FunActually a buddy of mine has a 460 Wby (shortend to 2.5" I believe) in an XP and it's manageable. He shot a very nice elephant with in Botswana a few years back. Here's a pic of my 416 Taylor it has a 15" barrel.
2200 with the 350 Mag Tip and 2000+ with a 400 Hornady. 3/4 inch group at 50.

Andrea Sandri-BorianiRichard,
Tinus is just back from Canada and is available on Thursday and Friday. He is a very knowlegeable and likable person and you will enjoy being in the bush with him. His rates are advertised on my website
www.phalaborwa.net. He said that you must not feel obliged to take any game in this area unless you really want it. Please let me know if I must confirm the provisional booking I made. I'm looking forward to meet you in Hoedspruit. I also would like you to try my short barreled 458 Lott.

richardpowellHi, Andrea !
Been very hectic around here ... Getting ready for the six weeks in Namibia .. plus today is my birthday and I have to go out for dinner in exactly two minutes.. I'm going to look over your rates more closely tomorrow .. Interestingly enough (for me, anyways) I hunted in your area in '77 @$250 a day .. and in '80 @ $315 a day. The daily rates haven't changed all that much .. My $660 leopard in '77 and my $2,100 big male lion in '80 have become more dear !!! Airfare to Hoedspruit for me is about $550 Canadian so this might swing me away until I can spend at least four or five days to make it worthwhile ...

Andrea Sandri-BorianiRichard,
Happy birthday! I'm quite sure that I can arrange your internal flights a lot cheaper than your travel agent. I will email you the correct price on Monday. In case I will have the tickets delivered to you at Johannesburg airport. Can you let me have the details of your arrival and departure fligts to and from JNB? I'm looking forward to meet you in Phalaborwa.
Best regards

Andrea Sandri-BorianiRichard,
The best return fare I could get JNB/PHW is R 2.350, that corrisponds to about 330 US$. Please let me know if you are coming so I can confirm the arrangements.
Regards

Whoever invented the metric system should be shot on the spot!
It is absolutely no good for working with guns at all.
In fact, now I know why the Germans cannot make any decent guns any more, it is all because they are using this silly system.
Hear! Hear!
Saeed is absolutely right.
It's no good for sports either. I was watching the women's tennis championship from Wimbledon between Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. The commentator on TV, speaking of Sharapova, said, "There isn't an ounce of intimidation in her," meaning that she was totally not intimidated by Serena. (The remark was obviously completely true.)
Now, imagine that commentator trying to say "There isn't a gram of intimidation in her," or "There isn't a milliliter of intimidation in her." Would that work? Absolutely not.
