Hello all!
My partner and I are planning our second trip to northern Zimbabwe, for early June of this year. We are both PUMPED! Does anyone know what type of weather we can expect at that time? Is it cool, wet, spring time? (Our first time over was in early August, two yrs. ago.)
We are each planning on buffalo, first and foremost. After that, on our 10 days, we'll see what we can track? Good hunting to all.

Cool nights and mornings. Typically, should be beautiful, enjoyable days.

I do not know where you are from but for me,after a long cold winter the last place in the world I want to be at is a cool place in the summer.I did it in 2012 on my Zim leopard hunt but I do not think I would do it again.October in Zim was unforgettable.

There is a significant difference between Matetsi and the Zambezi Valley weather! Matetsi can be really cold in the mornings, especially when driving through the vleis

Early mornings looking for tracks are going to be really cold on the back of the truck. Bring warm jacket, gloves and hat. Windproof fleece is really good for this. It should be dry, not wet, as it will be the beginning of winter in Zim.

The days should be beautiful, warm and sunny.

What talentrec said. The weather will be very pleasant midday. You'll get to laugh at the Zimbos as they will be suffering and complaining heartily about the cold.

Yup! Battling along in two pairs of shorts??

The climate in the valley, the west, or the lowveld will be very different than Harare, in my experience. Particularly with respect to the daily high temps.

Harare, given it's elevation and position on the continent, is reported to have one of the most plesant and temperate climates on earth. No so in other parts of the country.

I was in the Zambezi valley in mid June of 2011. In the mornings it was just above freezing (34-35F) and at noon it was about 70 degrees F. The trackers and my PH did not like the early morning temps.

I take a fleece jacket, a fleece vest, fleece gloves and a hat that covers your ears. Believe me you will use them all early and late. My wife and I usually get a couple ragg wool sweaters which we wear then leave with the driver/trackers. I bought 300 weight fleece from Cabelas and it works great and is quiet.

Hunting in Southern Africa in June-July, I'd recommend all of the above. I like the stocking "watch caps". So do the trackers. Never loan one to them. Either keep it or GIVE it to them unless you like lice.
