lenglengSCI Taxidermy Insurance goo idea?
I am leaving in 2 weeks for my 1st safari and was wondering if anybody uses this insurance on their mounts incase something happens to them on the way back to me. Then this is supposed to pay for a new hunt to replace these animals by the looks of it. Sounds like a good idea.
Thanks for ant advice.
P.S.- Not sure if I am going to mount them in Africa or just send them here to be mounted, if this makes a difference.

sierrabravo45I haven't worried about it.
Take a bunch of Good Pictures, lots of Trophy shots. In case of lost trophies think of it as saving money for the next hunt.
When I saw my trophy bill from 11 plains game animals my reply was "Shit I could have went on another hunt!!!"
If they loose them, you saved a bunch of money.
I got my stuff mounted in the US, and they looked great. I only let one taxidermist touch my stuff and I like his work and use him for everything.
Some people swear by African taxidermists. Don't be suprised also if the outfitter wants you to use a African Taxidermist. I figured out costs of getting my work done in the US and getting work done in RSA, and it figured out to be the same. Normally shipping costs will be higher for completed work in RSA which will then make the cheaper mounting of RSA comparable to US costs.
There is a lot more people on this board that have a lot more experience about getting trophies back. I haven't had a problem YET "knock on wood"

Congrats on booking a hunt and good luck on it.

lenglengthanks for the reply, but if I am reading it right this insurance will pay for another trip to go and shoot the same animals again, mount them, and ship them to me all included if my animals are lost which would be nice. thats the main reason i am considering it

My klipspringers skull and horns were lost from Zim to the US. I wish I had that that policy! Good luck!
I am presently dealing with a Broker/Insurance Co. on two animals shipped from Namibia. Broken warthog skull/lost tusks and lost Springbok skull. I submitted a bill, they refused. Needed more documentation. I resubmitted the bill with pics of what was left of the trophies. I'm waiting.
How can you put a price on an African trophy?
When this circle jerk is complete, depending on the consequences, I'll be happy to supply the names of the parties involved. Good or bad.
Somehow, I think it's going to be bad!

lenglengTJ, sorry to hear about your troubles hope it works out for you. this is why i am considering this insurance. I know it wont replace those special animals of my 1st safari but cash always you help better.
The first trip is certainly a learning experience. I will have extra Trophy/gun/medevac insurance next time.
