ScottWBarnes 168gn vs. 180gn TSX's
I'm planning on using the 180 Triple Shocks in my -'06 for plains game, but wondered if anyone has field experience with both.
What was your field experience with the 168gn on plains game?

sierrabravo45I have used 165 grainers out of my 06 with Noslers. I actually prefered the 180 grainers to the 165. IMHO the bigger the bullet the better.

Fallow BuckScott,
I used the 168's in my 308win on Impala Warthog(x6) bushbuck all one shot kills. I've shot Fallow deer with them also and all were one shot kills. Very little meat damage and excellent performance.
I also used them on Eland where I had a self induced problem, through a deflection on my first shot and a poor followup shot, that did the lungs rather than the heart. Finally a neck shot put him down. I have no doubt that were the first shot to go where I aimed, then the 168grainers would have done the job and I would have been 9 for 9.
My thoughts would be that if you are hunting in dense bush and Eland are on your wish list, then take the 180's. It will give you peace of mind which is far more important than the tiny difference in performance.
When is your hunt?

Terry BlauwkampI've used the 180's on Plains Game with fine results, and am taking the 168's the next trip to try them.

retreeverScott from experience both will do well and not let you down as long as you become proficient with either bullet..I like the 180s better but in my opinion Barnes triple shocks are a 21 century bullet..

billinthewildBarnes 168 grain TSX. One of my favorite little rifles is a Remington Model Seven KS in .308. I have hunted quite a bit with it, even one good trip to Africa. It has never been MOA accurate. I loaded the Barnes 168 grain and beat MOA. Not hunted with it yet, but it is an accurate bullet and from everything I have read, its performance on game should be fine.
