A red river hog and a bushpig is the same animal. The color differences are regional.

in fact I took the picture in Sarawak (Borneo).

Thanks, 333_OKH,
I was puzzled by this pig and I have had no answer.
It seems to smoke a cigar.
I'd have believed it be a Suis fidelus castrois.
Thanks.

Sorry, D, but your info is dated. Within the last two years DNA analysis has established that they are two different species and are now so designated under SCI regulations.

I love piggies and have hunted the feral California version of Sus scrofa as well as both bushpig and warthog. I could happily spend the rest of my hunting career chasing, shooting, cooking and eating examples from the entire Family.

They might be in the same family, but they are different species. They are not the same pig.

Species Potamochoerus larvatus (bushpig)

Species Potamochoerus porcus (red river hog)
