Which Mauser action for a 9.3x62??
Which Mauser actions were most frequently chambered in 9.3x62 for use in the German colonies? I want to build one on a surplus action. (I know that CZ chambers their 550 in it, but this is a project.)

You could order a 9.3 built on a VZ-24 from Zbrojovka Brno (called the BO-98), but better hurry, they're on shakey ground. As of yesterday, however, they are still taking orders. They'll build it any way you want it, fancy walnut, engraved, carved stock, full stock, with or w/o sights, etc.

1909's come up nice in 9.3x62...my smith has built a couple works of Art in that chambering on 1909's. He seems to prefer the 1909 over other actions despite the opinions one here that are raised about them.

Use standard action Mauser (M98).

why 9.3x62 ?
9.3x62 is an all around standard calibre to shoot home.
9.3x64 is designed for big dangerous game and german hunters keep being fond of it vs 375HH.
Both request only standard action, no need of Magnum expensive action.

WHAT is 1909 ?

ALF,
How about a ZG 47 chambered for the 9,3x62 in 95% new condition?

Sold at an auction here in Stockolm last week for the price of USD $ 250....

www.hunt.se, link "klicka hr fr katalogen & slutprislista" text in red, "visa auktions nummer" Item No: 5255.

I hadn't time to attend the auction and forgot to bid in advance

Cheers

As Alf stated the 1909 is one of the prefered variant of mauser action. I am having a .404 Jeffrey built on a 1909 and although it work out expensive it will be lovely rifle, at the advice of those on this forum I am having it re-carbourized and heat treated for what it's worth.

Any quality Mauser action is fine, the 1909, VZ24, G33-40 small ring is a real dandy,....

I built mine on a Brno 21 8x57 with a bad bore, and I cannot imagine a nicer 9.3x62..

I will take exception to the 9.3x64 as opposed to the 9.3x62, In the USA brass is only available from Horneber and for how long?, it is expensive and you achieve only about 200 FPS max on my chronograph, and I have owned a bunch of both..A max loaded, long throated 9.3x62 will really cook with a 26" barrel and give the 64 a real run for its money...not to say the 64 isn't a great cartridge, it really is a honey, but not for the USA as it stands now. It also has considerable recoil by comparison, and any action that can be used for the 9.3x64 can also be used for the 375 H&H with a modicum or metal work...and this applies to the 9.3x62 also in all fairness...A standard Mauser makes a nice 375 H&H or even a 416 Rem.

Ray, how are you getting the GS custom bullets to you? Are they shipped by air or mail?
