I went throught the same thing at Frankfurt. Things that had passed everywhere else on the trip they wouldn't let me take on. I made them get a plastic bag and check the items through as luggage.

A 6" Bic pen or #2 pencil is a heck of a lot better weapon than nail clippers. Wait until they go after those next! We will be defenseless.

I agree. The problem is that the TSA mindset is to look for bombs when they should be looking for bombers.
