Adelino Serras Pires 1928 - 2015
Just read the sad news in the recent issue of African Indaba. A Mozambique safari hunting legend. Fiona, his wife, signed his book "The Winds of Havoc" on both of their behalf at DSC a couple of years ago. Was an inspiration that led me to have interest and hunt in Mozambique and I expressed that to Fiona when we spoke.

I would have loved to have met him.

RIP. Adelino lived one heck of an adventure filled life.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
- Rudyard Kipling

Life grows grim without senseless indulgence.

Interesting. Sounds like I need to read his book.

Adelino was a friend, and he will be missed. He lived a great life, and Fiona did a great job of telling his stories in "The Winds of Havoc." If you've not read it, please do.

I met Adelino and Fiona at SCI convention several years ago. They were both very accomadateing and pleasant. The Winds of Havoc is well worth reading.

Adelino Serras Pires is from my country.
His family was established in the trading and agriculture business , he also had a tourism and travel agency in the city of Beira ( central Moz)where he started the hunting business.
By then he was exploring one of the coutadas and also the hotel inside Gorongosa.
In the mid 60´s he was technical manager and member of the board of Safrique , considered by far the biggest and best organized hunting companies of all Africa.
When Safrique decided to close down operations in 1973 , due to the guerrilha war , he joined another company by the name of Safarilandia that was exploring coutada 5 and Zinave park.
He hunted also in Zimbabwe, South Africa , Quénia , Sudan , Car and Tanzânia.
I can say to you that Adelino , a very temperamental person ,hunted with very important people of his time , he was considered an excelent PH and Mozambique hunting industry surely lost its biggest name.
RIP.
