My trophies are being shipped home from South Africa soon. I am told that the port of entry must be either Baltimore of JFK Airports, and that they must go through the Fish and Wildlife Service and US Customs inspections. Do I really need to pay a broker for this process or can I handle this myself. Baltimore airport is less than two hours from my house. Perhaps the more experienced among you can offer me some advice? Thanks in advance.

I am only 2 hrs from baltimore also, but I used and agent and it wasn't that expensive. They called me and told me where to pickup my trophies. It took me about 15 minutes to get them at the terminal. While I was there I also took a bunch of guns to get my new 4457 with all the guns I may take overseas completed, and this also took about 15 minutes. All in all a worth while trip. If you want the name of the agent email me and I will search for it. They were very kind - In fact they said if I was ever comming to Baltimore in the summer just call ahead and they would have tickets for an Orioles game, eh. For those of you that live in the SE US, what port of entry did you use? I live in the Florida panhandle, near Pensacola. Is Mobile, Alabama a port of entry for trophies. I will be bringing home "dry" trophies, ie tanned hides and skull mounts. Thanks, Bob

I cleared my own shipment here in Houston. Had to make one extra trip for a U.S. Customs preforated stamp on the shipping documents but everything else was a piece of cake.

huntingcat,can you give more details about how you arranged this. I'm in Houston also and off to Namibia in July. Bob

You can do it yourself. One can download the appropriate forms from the USFWS web site. The only reason I hired a broker out of LA was that I lived in Arizona and my guy in LA (Mike @ Hahn international) handled the forms and arranged very reasonably priced shipping for dirt cheap. There are bargains out there if you look for them.
