yukon deltaI was waiting to see these! That's really nice. Did you add a fiber optic front sight? I added one to mine and really like it.
I missed the other rifle you mentioned? Where is that thread?

<Hunter Formerly Known As Texas Hunter>Absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!
I stared at the pistol grip cap trying to make out the engraving but could not. What is it?
12 July 2007, 04:01
Use Enough GunSorry, it's a white rhino. The angle and the bright outside light doesn't do it justice.
12 July 2007, 04:05
<Hunter Formerly Known As Texas Hunter>Yes! Very Nice.
UEG: Absolutely beautiful rifle. Love the tasteful engraving. So he took a standard RSM and buil that for you? Is the barrel a new one or the stock? Regardless, It's very nice. I like the jeweling on the bolt as well, I'm having that done to my Hein. jorge

shootawayI would have chose another action instead of a Rooger.
12 July 2007, 04:53
ozhunterThat rifle is a beauty .
Any planed trips to Africa in the near future for it?
12 July 2007, 04:53
dogcatshootaway,
Please go away if you do not have anything nice to say.
Ruger is the best, strongest made factory action made today. George Hallomore, author of Chui and In the Salt with 40 years of PH'ing under his belt says that the Ruger is his number one pick. As did two of the PH's I hunted with last year.

BwannaI have the first one of these .458 Lotts Mr. Berry built. It's an incredibly nice shooter. Shootaway, I promise you neither rifle is built on a "Rooger" action.

BwannaMike, that's Vaughn's son holding the rifle. Vaughn was at the office, and I'm sure (as I would) threatened his kids with serious bodily harm if they damaged the gun in the photo session. Hence, the "holding it in hot potato fashion"

The two books you mentioed were written by Lou Hallamore not George Hallamore. George is one of Lou's two PH sons. George uses a Ruger 416 and wields it well. Lou uses a 470 English double and a 458 Win Ruger M-77 with tang safety. But that doesn't mean that shootaway shouldn't go away. You were right on that.

jstevensThat has to be the prettiest Ruger ever built, converted a find working piece into a work of art as well. I love to shoot my .416 Rigby RSM, but you can get too much of a good thing.
A shot not taken is always a miss
UEG,
That is a beautiful rifle!
Good luck and shoot lots of trophies!!

Use Enough GunThanks everyone. Bwanna is right. I was at work and two of my three sons were conscripted into taking the photos since I was at work and wanted to post the pics before we leave for Africa on Friday morning at 7:00 am. By the way, LeRoy Barry is a good old redneck boy, and loves to work every detail into his rifles. He will spend the time needed to make sure everything fits perfectly. If he has a question, he is calling you to discuss. You are definitely kept in the loop and updated frequently on the progress of your rifle. He worked for Cooper Arms for 13 years and has the experience to turn out some beautiful rifles that are built to last. Jorge: That rifle was built from an out of the box new Ruger RSM 77 .458 Lott. So you can see that LeRoy has transformed a great working rifle into a stronger rifle but still a thing of beauty as well. YukonDelta: Yes, I added the NECG fiber optic front sight since, at my age, I need all of the help I can get!

DavidCUEG,
Great rifle! Thanks for posting the pics.
Best of luck on your hunt!

LabmanWow - You really know how to hurt a guy. I just picked up a LNIB Ruger RSM in 416 Rigby at an auction. I thought it was really a good looking rifle until I saw this post. Now mine looks so plain. That is one fine looking rifle. Seriously, best of luck with the new toy.

458RugerNo1I second that, the Ruger is a truly great rifle. My entire battery of bolt guns is made up of Ruger M77's. They've served me well and never let me down.
The RSM in particular is their masterpiece IMHO. Mine's in .375 and if I had to cut my battery down to just ONE rifle that would be it.

30-06 Ruger M77/MkII
.375 H&H Ruger RSM
Good luck on Friday my friend! When you get back, I'd like to get the particulars of your gunsmith. Maybe he can "gussie up" my RSM as well. My 416 RSM has a special meaning to me. See you when you get back. jorge

Oregon45Is that barrel cut back from the factory length? That is beautiful scroll engraving, just what a rifle like the RSM needs.

Barry is currently stocking my RSM .458 LOTT as well. I used him based on Bwanna's recomendation. Here is Berrys web site. [http://www.canyoncreekgunstocks.com/Display.asp

BuliwyfLovely rifle! Which recoil pad did you use?
12 July 2007, 10:16
Use Enough GunThe recoil pad is the Pachmayr 1" Decelerator pad for the old guy. Bwanna's is, I believe, the 1/2"? Decelerator pad.

bulldog563Very Nice. Who did the engraving?
12 July 2007, 13:52
shootawayThe engraving is too hard or machine like. It's not that it is not a good rifle but if it expensive perhaps it could have been made nicer for the same cost. The grip cap is confusing.
I particularly liked the grip cap, regardless on what it is supposed to be. It's a classy contrast.
It should be taken to Ruger and ask them if and why they would knock it back for a fireing pin or such, warrenty job.

Hog KillerUEG, Great looking job on the RSM. What do you have on the safari menu for the Lott?

Use Enough GunHog Killer: The Lott's main menu will consist of buffalo and elephant; however they are not on this year's agenda. Bulldog563: I know that LeRoy has someone else who assists him with the engraving-I do not know their name. I do know that his wife, Connie, does the checkering and has developed a number of patterns that she uses. That is the ribbon pattern on the forearm.

Or has anybody ever got enough?
Very nice - congratulations
