shootawayMakuti buff vid
This is a vid of one of the two buff I took last week in Makuti,Zimbabwe. This is a back-up vid shot by the camp manager, Blake.I will post the other version when I recieve the footage later on.We were stalking a small herd when this nice bull broke off and went on to find this younger one to fight with. The two finished fighting and we followed them until we got them out in the open. The first shot was a pass through lung shot with a 500gr,factory Hornady,RN solid. The second shot went through the hind leg and through the scotum-a handloaded,485gr pmp solid, that spun the bull around before it came to a stop.
buff vids The rifle was a Ruger lott with open sights.

KPeteWell done, George! Claudia and I were hearing periodic reports at our camp in Dande North about your hunt and were delighted every time we received word that you took another fine bull. Will we be seeing a lengthier hunt report from you?
(Having just returned from Zim, like yourself, I'm still sorting through almost a thousand photos before I begin my own report. Suffice it to say, it was a spectacular tuskless elephant hunt with Buzz Charlton.)

How did the second bullet perform?
It looks like it hit the ground before hitting the buffalo. Did the bullet tumble upon hitting the leg?

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.
Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

There seems to be some dirt shoot up the moment the shot goes off. That may be caused by the buffs hoof after the hind leg recieved the bullet or as the buff spun around. It was the only shot fired from the right side of the buff and I believe it went through the hind leg and exited through the scotum.

shootawayThanks,JD.It took six days of plenty of walking and driving before we had our first good chance and I could put the bead on the bull.It would've been sooner if I was using a scope. My first buff was at 200yds away.It was very difficult to get close this time of the year in Makuti. The buff see you from far away.We once got close to a really old bull in the high grass but he spotted us as we made our final approach about 20 yds away. The second buff, the one in the vid was close at 60yds or so.[URL=
