Matador vs a Cape Buffalo!

Angelo ManganoMatador vs a Cape Buffalo!
I came across video's yesterday of Spanish Bullfighting, which led me to think of what the outcome for the Matador would be if they fought Cape Buffalos instead of Bulls.
After a few matches, I will admit that I was routing for the bull.
What do you think? How would it turn out?
Something to think about on a boring Mondau
I am interested in hearing your comments!

with or without the work of the banderillos ?

sambarman338Conventional bullfighting only works because the relatively small bull is gradually broken down by the picadors and banderilleros, after which it will drop its head enough for the matador to use the sword correctly.
To fight a buffalo, every person, horse and piece of equipment would need to be enormous and of titanic strength. The size of the horn alone would make the necessary close passes near impossible, I suspect.

that too.

Angelo ManganoGood points, and I wonder how effective the Bandelleros would be on a raging Buffalo. I assume that they could be distracted by them, same way as a group of lions distracts the Buffalo, but I think that the Buffalo would easily throw those horses around.
I just dont see a Buffalo getting the death blow same way as a fighting bull
It would be something to see though!

Michael RobinsonA thousand pound Spanish fighting bull is a formidable opponent in the ring.
Many toreadors have died or been grievously injured fighting them.
But fighting a Cape buffalo with a cape and a sword is not the same ballgame.
It ain't the same league.
Hell, it ain't even the same frickin' sport!

georgeldAfter watching a couple bulls and seeing them tortured like they do in the ring. It disgusted me so much I left long before the session was over.
I was hoping to see those assholes hanging bloody from the horns.
A heavily padded, blind folded horse was gored right in front of where I was sitting. Once the bull was gotten away, they shot the horse.
IMO they shot the wrong species.

wrenchmasterIMHO, bull fighting is a despicable thing and I have no interest in watching it. However, if they were to switch the bulls with a dugga boy, that may be another story. I'm sure there would be many job openings for replacement matadors!

That would only be if you can get the Cape Buffalo to cooperate as its not in their genes to attack anything that moves, unlike the fighting Bulls of Pamplona.

Angelo ManganoFulvio, with a screaming crowd, horses, with men on horseback sticking them with darts, wouldn't the Buffalo be filled with adrenaline like a wounded Buff in the bush?
PS I am with you guys..my sympathy is with the Buffalo and not the matador
It is a cruel drawn out death and I feel that it is disrespectful to the bull
Yes we hunt and kill them too but we do everything that we can to give them a quick death, and we respect them as well.

Angelo, Not all wounded Buffalo will charge; most just want to be left alone to make the best out of a bad day and it is the random one that will eventually retaliate.
I am sure Mark Sullivan will attest to this.

With the drawn out episode of a fight with a Matador, I bet more often than not that they will be able to get the Buffalo to retaliate.
I agree with you that not all Buffalo charge, but all of them have the capability.

The comparison being drawn between Spanish fighting bulls and Cape Buffalo is similar to comparing apples to oranges.
The Spanish bulls are a distinct breed whose vicious genetics and abilities to be able to turn on a sixpence are inbred and suited to this ancient and traditional bloody sport which is apparently practiced only in Spain.
These bulls when released into the ring are already loaded on steroids and searching for their victim.
The Cape Buffalo does not possess such traits no matter which way you want to swing it.
To each his own.

Angelo ManganoI never knew that Fulvio, very interesting
We are going to need to consult Mark Sullivan about this!

lavacaBull fighting depends on the bull dropping his head and coming in low. Buff keep their head high at least until the last moment, I'm told. I've never had one die inside about 15 to 20 yards. So it just wouldn't work. And agree the bulls need to be softened up a bit and a lot of horses die in the process. Those padded "skirts" around the horses are as much to protect the crowd from seeing the horses entrails as protecting the horse.

KMG Hunting SafarisLast post from me.
More people get killed per year pursuing Cape Buffalo with a rifle vs a Matador taking on a beast with a sword. That pretty much sums it up.
Matador taking on a Buff with a sword, will yield close to 100% fatality.
If you haven't been charged by a Buff, I understand why you will disagree.
All the best, and stay away from the pointy end.
