I attended the SCI convention in Vegas doing research for my first hunt in Africa. I spent some time with Gavin Rorke about a buffalo hunt in 2014. Has anyone here had any experience with him?

I shared a camp with Gavin on the zambize a couple of years ago and he seemed to be an OK bloke. I have been told don't let his size fool you he will walk your legs to a nub.

I thought everything was great. In three weeks I took a 52# elephant, a good buffalo, a male lion, and some stuff for bait (hippo, impala, zebra). The camp was comfortable and clean. Gavin is a good conversationalist. The camp staff was very competent. The meals were great. What more can I say?

The other poster was right: Gavin will run your legs off despite being a very large man. We usually got up about 5:00AM and got back to camp after dark.

I have hunted with Gavin several times and all have been great hunts. My wife would tell you the same and she has taken a 46 inch buff with him. He will work hard to see you get your trophies and have a good time.

Gavin will also make sure the food in camp is excellent.

I, too, was in the camp with Die Ou Jagter two years ago & agree with him - Gavin seemed to be a good guy & I'd hunt with him if the opportunity arose.

Plus 1 for Gavin. Hunted with him a few years back before he went out on his own. Would have no reservations at all being in his camp. In fact we visited about just that at SCI last week.

Kevin Robertson recommended Gavin to me a couple of years ago. I thought that was a pretty strong recommendation. Very nice man, too.

I met Gavin before my safari in 2003 on my way to camp. He was working for Russ Broom at the time. I was hunting with another of Russ Broom's PHs.

While in camp an appie was willing to give me the dirt on all the PHs(man did I learn a lot!). The conversation turned to the use, and overuse, of hunting vehicles on hunts.

Having known Gavin to be well respected, and having noticed that he is "husky" I asked about his habits regarding the hunting vehicle.

The appie said something to the effect of: "S---! That guy can walk! He makes a habit of heading out on a death march whenever he has a new appie along for the first time. NO ONE ever comes back to camp questioning his ability."

This appie made it clear that Gavin is not only an outstanding hunter, he is also into doing it the right way.

Supposes to be a good PH along with his partner Doug Carlisle despite the fact that he drives a Land rover.

I really appreciate all the feedback. Not having experience with Africa it is hard to select someone to book with on a first hunt. thanks to all.
