Tuffpak warning!!

FrostbitTuffpak warning!!
I love my Tuffpak. I have no plans to stop using my Tuffpak so the purpose of this alert is simple to check the tightness of the nut on the inside of the lid on the locking mechanism.
This was a long trip with lots a airline legs through different countries. That Tuffpak was opened and closed many, many times on the trip. We also use it as the "safe" in camp so we opened and closed it in camps to get money for tips etc.
When I left Jo-Berg and signed out with SAPS I locked it and pulled up on the lid before attaching the plastic buckle lock. I know it was locked!!
When we went through Customs in Houston on arrival the Customs guy simply undid the plastic buckle and opened my case before I even pulled the key out.
At first I thought, crap, did I not lock it.
I just took a close look at it here in the hotel room because we will be heading out to Seattle & Anchorage today for the final legs of the journey home. The nut, star washer, shim, and locking tab were found in the bottom of the Tuffpak. It must have come apart somewhere between Jo-Berg & Houston.
All the parts were present so I simply put it back together with my leatherman.
I think I will now travel with an extra nut or maybe even get extra parts including the locking tab from Harry.
I repeat....I still love my Tuffpak!!
Cheers

Beretta682EAfrica travels has a thread on modifying tuffpak to install a outside lock.
I got my cousin to do it for me - works great and looks solid.
My trip got cancelled - maybe I will use it in the fall.

Joyce would NEVER use a Blaser, even for that.

Just make sure it is a left one. That way when something comes along that you REALLY want, you'll have a spare.
Wish I could catch you coming though SEATAC. I'd buy you both a round.
Cheers.

why wouldn't she use it for that?? after all, that's the extent of a Blaser's usefulness...

If it is a bolt what about a hole drilled through and a cotter pin?

Shaft is not long enough.

Is the lid solid enough to hammer on? If so, get a center punch and put a few dimples around the threads, that'll hold 'em forever!
Yeah I finally made it back. Didn't know til after I'd sent a pm that you were on this dream trip with Mrs. Lucky. Glad it went so well she's beat her problems. WOW! Wonderful!
Only been on A/R twice now, just started reading your hunt the other night. Came back just now to finish it. Saw the ele pic. Sure happy for you, Don't know what she did yet, haven't read that far. Catch up when you can.
