Man. After reading some of these posts, I get the feeling that there are some folks out there who would take exception to fishing with dynamite. Oh well, to each his own.

To quote the punch line of an old joke, "Are you gonna sit there and complain, or fish?"

I read these posts and see confirmed the absolute fact that way too many are ready and all too willing to settle for the rule of the lowest common denominator.

To each his awful own only goes so far, and not anywhere near far enough.

mrlexma et al: My trolling was just to show my utter disgust over people who are "holier than...". Hunting has different meanings in different cultures, the same goes for practises.

Let´s just see if we can´t find something more meaningful to discuss.

So far i believe that the conversation has been fairly mature and level headed, with out the nasty and uneccesary mudsling that you allude to.Nobody is trying to be holier than thou. What happens around the world does vary greatly but since sport hunting began in Africa, i repeat sport hunting in Africa, there has been a standard acceptable practice and ethics. I am a firm believer that it should continue. My concern is not what happens in the USA, Italy, UK or aynwhere else for that matter.

Rightly so there is a lot of respect for hunters such as Harry Selby on this forum and men such as him are the one's who set the bar for the rest of us.No doubt he would find some of the current activites in Africa very disheartening

Scott450: If you´ve read your Ruark/Hemingway/Capstick you´ll find that cars were used quite a bit in hunting as was sitting by salt licks, bait etc.

Bror Blixen used planes to find elephants!

So the "flag of ethics" that todays American hunter flies when he hunts Africa sure didn´t originate in Africa!

My 2cents.

Boddington was hunting elephant on the Sunday episode of Tracks Across Africa when his tracker spotted an elephant about 200 yards from the truck, they did track it on foot and shoot it, it wasn't from the vehicle but it wasn't a difficult hunt either,,Did that pass the ethics test?,,,Many ranchers, whether for cattle or game, now fly over their properties, either in light planes, helicopters or ultralights. It is the best way to check animal numbers and conditions whether for cattle or game. Bush pilots know the migration of Caribou , why most places you can not hunt the day you fly in for them. Baiting with corn or feed for deer in Texas is common practice and most here think nothing about it, someone in Wisconson might not think that passes the smell test. Each person should have some standard of their own ethics,,, but they don't have to justify them to me. When in a new place, I ask what is concidered fair chase or sporting and of course what is legal. It is why I hunt away from home, to broaden my experiences and learn and educate myself about other hunting cultures and enjoy the outdoors.
