Ship Ele Skull (Y/N)? Opinions Please!!!

I have been quoted by Andy Hunter an extra $454 to ship the skull of my bull elephant shot this past July. At first glance that does not look too-too bad...but I still need to retrieve it from JFK (extra weight including crate is 171 lbs, so it must weight around 150lbs) and I wonder what exactly I'll do with it. Sounded "cool" to have when in the bush, but....

I think I read a bit ago that somebody was having problems getting the smell out of theirs?

Comments, suggestions, opinions???

Mine sits just left of my front door on the porch. A hippo skull sits to the right of the door. Talk about conversation pieces! Yes they smell a little funky but mine is not that bad. You'll really enjoy the skull but handle it carefully because it is more delicate than it appears.

Bill, you can soak your skull in ammonia for a week or more And that will help greatly with the smell. We do it all the time with seal and sea lion skulls and boned at work. The bad thing is, an ele skull is very big and you would need to find a big container to hold it in and a lot of ammonia.

The price to ship yours back is a couple hundred bucks less than I paid. Mine still does have a bit of a smell, not as bad as when I posted for help. This is after several applications of hardware store odor killer.

My wife was the one that wanted to bring it back. I guess it is destined for the garden. It is quite the conversation piece and You do not shoot an elephant every day. Right now it sits in the garage.

I guess I am glad we brought it back.

Up to you if you want a stinky conversation piece.

I'd do it if I had the chance, it would be decorating my front door. I did not have an opportunity to bring my skull back. But damn, would I like to have one. To hell with the conversation, the memories last longer than any conversation.

One day I will shoot a big old tuskless cow and her skull will hang by some heavy chains to the wall behind my desk. This should go over very well with the university administration.

IÂ´d bring it back and just let it lie on the porch. Exposure to the elements should kill the smell (in time) and it would be interesting to let moss and stuff grow on it...after a few decades the grandkids (if my sons reproduce, theyÂ´re a bit young yet) would admire it "ThatÂ´s from the elefant grandpa shot".

have it sent back! How many people have a elephant skull!

I have my hippo skull in my living room, hoping to hunt tuskless cow next year, it will be coming back with all my trophies, as one of them!

I'm having some of the leg bones from my giraffe sent back, along with the skull. Not sure what I'm going to do with them but they will be here to think about!

At this late date, I would think you would have more pressing questions on your mind. Like how many 458 Lott solids / softs to take to Lobo!
